Turban Legend By
R. Zamora Linmark

The three most Filipino characteristics I observed are that we are resilient, grateful and caring. Filipinos are
resilient enough to work on another country and leave their families behind. But they are working abroad for the sake
of stability of their family back home. Even if it means that they will miss anniversaries, marriages, holidays or any
other event the family associates with. They struggle working at other countries due to the fact that it is very different
on how the situation of living is in another country, so therefore the Overseas Filipino workers or the OFWs tend to be
homesick and anxious. Others have a stable jobs, others struggle being a caretaker and some are just making ends meet
for themselves. It is really hard for them because working abroad does not mean a guaranteed stability, you have to
work really hard for it. That is why I find Filipinos resilient having to go through all those struggles and very far away
from home. Filipinos are grateful especially to their families when receiving any kind of gifts and right away they
express the very gratitude of their love. In this case, the balikbayan boxes that was sent by the person abroad is they
very presentation or symbol of their love. That is why Filipinos are always grateful for even the tiniest things they
accept, It’s about the love that goes with the gift they receive. And hence caring, Filipinos are very caring as said on the
first word. They could work very farm away from home overseas just to give them stable lives and a food to eat on the
table. They care about their families so much and would be willing to do everything for them. It takes real love for a
person to care so much, especially as families. Filipinos are all kinds of things in that story but that is what stood out on
that story.
We Filipinos have these culture as we go home, we always bring “pasalubong” or presents as a way to give
them to our loved ones. It is token of your appearance that is closer to them again more than ever, and it is what makes
a reunion or the homecoming more heartwarming. Pasalubong is the very dear present of what anyone would love to
always have.
