Introduction

In today’s world, an economy that lacks technology will make it hard for them to grow.

This is because technology makes our jobs much faster and more efficient. The influence of

technology can mostly be felt in any field, one of which is education. Today, technology serves a

critical role in our daily live, especially for students. It has become enticing to praise technology

nowadays as a remedy to many school assessments, while it influences several of our schools’

classes and activities. Many schools increasingly rely on technology to keep in touch with

education, particularly during this pandemic. Technology is also used in all aspects of a student’s

life. So, when the next possible path is college or professional life, technology can also be used

daily? Utilizing technology, the classroom can be held anytime and anywhere.

Nevertheless, a well-rounded use of technology might support a positive learning

environment. This method may change education away from a traditional method and into

profound methods that would assist students in seeking the deepest understanding of the main

concepts, topics, and tools of any given subject area (Al-Hariri, Al-Hattami, 2017). We are aware

of the impacts of using technology for students, like making students more productive in class. It

also increased the students’ learning capability as well as knowledge in the classroom.

Technology seems to be the most reliable way for people to communicate in the 21 st century.

Information can be accessed quickly, if not instantly. Shields and Behrman (2000) state that our

society is quickly changing because of computer technology… Youth have become our computer

generation in today’s technologically advanced society. Teachers will also be no longer bound to

write on plain white paper or discuss the lecture on a whiteboard; instead, they can count on the

latest technology to make teaching easier. Zoom and Google Meet are good examples of online

meeting apps.
In conclusion, the advent of computers and similar technical gadgets into the educational

arena is frequently viewed as an example of emerging technology. It should be highlighted,

however, that the introduction of computers and other Information and communication

Technology (ICT) devices into the educational sector would result in some variance in the

teaching and learning process. The use of technology to enhance student’s performance has been

discussed lately. It has been much more convenient during the modern world. It also made

communication and information sharing so much easier and more effective. Technology has

played an important role in both academic performance and students’ personal development. As

a result, they are constantly on the lookout for the most up-to-date technology to complement

their exposure. We can certainly help improve help improve the quality of achievement in our

schools if we maintain a proper understanding of technology’s impact on academic performance.

Technology can become a good tool for learning when it is used in correctly; although, when it is

used incorrectly, it will have a bad impact on a students’ academic performance.

Background of the Study

Technology may be described as scientific knowledge used for practical purposes to

improve the quality of life for humans, or, as it is often referred to, as manipulation and control

over society (Lotha, 2021).

The word “technology” was defined by Homer and Hesiod, It came from the Greek

words “Techne” which means art, skill, craft, or the way, manner, or means by which a thing was

gained and “Logos” which means word (Oregon State). The influence of technology on

individuals has developed rapidly throughout time. This might have been caused by natural
factors or impacts. We, as students, want to know what happened as well. We are so obsessed

with technology that we sometimes forget how to do things the old-fashioned way. Since the

pandemic, students have been assigned to be schooled online, which was not the case in the past.

Students, too, have become dependent on technology. This has sparked our interest in how all of

this affected our studying strategy.

The major goal of incorporating technology into schools is to modify how instructors and

students acquire, access, analyze, present, and communicate information. This may assist in

democratizing knowledge in classrooms as well as differentiating education, which is especially

beneficial for children with special needs (Waddell, 2015).

The purpose of this study is to know the role of technology in the academic performance

of students and how can technology be used as a learning tool while simultaneously having an

important role on the academic performance of selected students at St. Therese School of

Marilao? This study also seeks to assess whether or not technology assists in the improvement of

students’ academic performance.

Statement of the Problem

The use of technology has transformed society today, and it continues to evolve on a daily basis.

It also became essential when it comes to studying. SO the focus of this study is to determine the role of

technology in academic performance of students.

1) What is the student’s profile in terms of the following:

A. Age

B. Gender

C. Grade Level

1) What are the reasons that influence students to use technology when studying?

2) What type of technological gadgets do students mostly use when studying?

3) How did the students cope up with the new normal way of schooling which includes

using technology in it?

4) What is the role of technology to academic performance of selected students in St.

Therese School of Marilao?

Scope and Delimitations

The purpose of this research is to gather data on the role of technology in student’s

academic performance. As technology advances, we hope to discover what it can provide for

those who are still studying. The focus of this study will be on the selected students from St.

Therese School of Marilao, and an interview will be conducted to gather information from the

selected students on how technology aids them in their academic performance. We want to know

what they are and whether or not they can be improved.

Significance of the Study

Students: This study will help students achieve the deepest understanding of using technology

for education. It also helps them be more productive and increases their learning capabilities in

class. This might enhance their comprehension of content and the development of skills in such

areas as analytical reasoning, problem solving, information evaluation, and creative thinking.

Parents: This study will help parents to know if their child’s academic performance improved

by using technology or it didn’t even helped their child towards answering modules.

Teachers: This study will assist school teachers in understanding the impact that technology has

on their students in order to help them in informing and adding awareness of the possible

consequences.

Future Researchers: This study will be the next future researcher’s reference for their research,

especially if their research is similar to ours.
