I.INTODUCTION.

The famous Bisaya pronunciation is basically the switching of the vowel

sounds, the A, E, I, O, U. Coping with the Bisaya Accent by Ethnic Groups in

the Philippines: A Case Study. The Philippines is home to more than 111

dialects, as a result of the division of these fundamental regional and cultural

groups. Each dialect has a unique accent that reflects the speaker’s particular

background as a member of the community. Additionally, language features like

accents are also important in the establishment and classification of a person’s

cultural identity. Recent research on accents has focused on how it affects social

categorization and how people perceive one another, showing that accents can

be a useful predictor of ethnicity.

There are about 20 million native speakers of the Visayan language in the

Philippines, and it has long been a significant component of Filipino culture.

But for many individuals who can’t stand the way Visayan people pronounce

their Tagalog, the Bisayan accent has become a source of ridicule.

There are several current examples that demonstrate accent-shaming is a

significant problem.

III.PRESENTATION OF THE CASE

Manila is the capital of the Philippines in which Tagalog is the national

language. Lisas experienced made her feel that the Bisaya was inferior to

Tagalog. She was often misunderstood when buying an item in the store, and

she would often hear mocking comments about her quirky pronunciation.

To learn Tagalog quickly, she tuned in the local radio stations and imitated

the way Tagalog was spoken. She read books and mingled with people to

improve her vocabulary. She gained new friends who not only helped her adjust

to the new language, but also her friends assisted her in coping the stressful city

she live on.

Endriga, D.A(2019) the term Cebuano derives from "Cebu"+"ano", a

Latinate calque, reflective of the Philippines's Spanish colonial heritage. In

common or everyday parlance, especially by those speakers from outside of the

island of Cebu and in fact in Cebu the language is more often referred to

as Bisaya. Bisaya, however, may become a source of confusion to non-native

speakers as many other Bisayan languages may also be referred to

as Bisaya even though they are not mutually intelligible with speakers of what

is referred to by linguists as Cebuano. Cebuano in this sense applies to all

speakers of vernaculars mutually intelligible with the vernaculars of Cebu

island, regardless of origin or location, as well as to the language they speak

IV. PROPOSED SOLUTION AND RECOMMENDATION

< Through interaction to the people around you especially in manila that the

primary language uses In Tagalog.

< Know the significance of appreciating the Bisaya culture and their accent

< Learn to know the ethnic diversity
