1. MARULA VIRGIN
THE TREE
• Same family as the Mango tree

• Very sturdy, it can stand droughts

• Numerous in southern Africa,


present on the whole continent

• Protected by populations (symbol of


fertility)

• Can be a meeting point : Cosy place


to chat thanks to the shade it offers
THE FRUITS
• In shape of a plum

• Thick yellow-green skin

• Juicy white flesh with exotic taste,


rich in vitamine C

• Used to produce traditionnal beer

• Also eaten by elephants who love


the taste
THE STONES

• Large hard stone in the middle of


the fruit

• Several seeds are manually extracted


from the stone

• A long and hard work of extraction

• The seeds contain between 55% and


60% of oil

• The oil is pressed locally and then


purified in France

THE FIELD

• Belongs to the Cucurbitaceae family

• Melons grow up in the semi-arid


zone of the Kalahari desert

• Watermelon ancestor

• It has large leaves

• Bitter flesh is pale green or yellow

THE TREE

THE TREE

• Belongs to the Euphorbiaceae family

• High tree (10/15m), looks like


baobab tree with low branches

• Mostly found in the dry areas of


Southern Africa

• Red-brown color

• Similar to an almond : thin layer of


sweet flesh surronding a tasty nut

• Staple food across Southern Africa

• Can be eaten directly or cooked into


a sauce or porridge

6. XIMENIA VIRGIN
THE TREE

• Belongs to the Olacaceae family

• Small throny tree

• Mostly found in the African


savannah

• Commonly knows as a sour plum

• Same size as European plum

• Bright orange color

• Harvested ripe once it has fallen to


the ground

• Rich in Vitamin C

• Used to make jam, jellies or syrup
