ABSTRACT
A major program of research was undertaken to determine the frictional
force, wear and coefficient of
friction. The pitch sample that was taken ofa dry
and slow pitch, green pitch and an
English willow bat. The
carried on linear reciprocating Tribometer. The base was madeexperiment
was

of cricket pitch
material (dry pitch & green pitch), another base was bat
of material, and the pin
base material were considered of
white leather of cricket ball based on number
ofovers bowled. The coefficient of friction and the frictional force between the
surfaces found using linear reciprocating Tribometer and the

software. The specific wear
rate was calculated of the different materials
using the readings of electronic
weighing balance. The net change in the weight of the different materials over a
period of 20 overs came out to be 0.712 g, 0.1398 g and 0.0051 gfor
dry pitch,
grassy pitch and bat specimen respectively.

INTRODUCTION
Cricket is game played with bat and ball between two teams of
a
eleven players on a field at the middle of which is a 20-metre
(22-yard) pitch
With a wicket at each
end, each having two bails balanced on three stumps.
Ihe
batting side scores runs by hitting the ball bowled towards them on
WICket with the bat, while the bowling and fielding side tries to stop the ball
and prevent this and dismiss each player (to get them "out").

A cricket ball falls on a strip of ground called pitch. It is 22 yards Iona
and 10 feet wide. There are different types of cricket pitches. A natural pitch
usual is described as a green pitch
with long grass or more moist than or

green seamer. pitch

This condition favors the bowler over the batsman
as

the ball can be made to behave unpredictably on longer or moist grass. Most
of the club and social cricket is played on pitches that professional cricketers
would call green (depending on area to area).

Agreen pitch-It is a type ofwicket which has a grass coveratthe top

surface. It aids fast bowlers as the seam movement is more on a grassy
wicket and the bounce obtained by the bowler is greater in a green wicket.
The grass along with the moisture aids a bowler to swing a ball and make the
conditions for a batsman difficult. A green pitch offer lesser turns as the ball
doesn't bite to the wicket as it does in a sticky wicket. This pitch doesn't crack
as much as a dusty pitch cracks. Batting becomes easier later in the day and
on the end days on such a track.
