Batting a baseball

Gg

There are many ways to swing a bat, and most of them are
not proper, batting properly will help your hitting greatly.

Demonstration

Have the demonstrator show how to bat a ball by taking one and breaking down the movements for the cadets:

You will start with your feet in the batter’s box, parallel to the plate. The only foot that should move is your front foot, if you are
having trouble with your back foot moving, dig it in so that it is harder to move it, it will help you keep it in. Your front foot is the
foot that moves, it moves when you begin your swing.

9 Now moving on to the mechanics of your swing, starting with your lower body. Your front foot will step forwards and land on the
dirt, and then both of your feet will twist so that your feet point forwards. You want this twist to rotate your entire body, as the
mins rotation of your hips is where most of your power comes from, not your arms. You want to make sure that this step is not a
transfer of weight. You want most of your weight to still remain on your back leg, so you can get a powerful twist when the time
comes. A thing I like to think of is that this swing is not a lunge, where you are going down with your weight forwards. You want to
stay up, and you’re your weight back. You actually want to keep your front leg straight at the point of contact, so that you have a
form thing to push against. Sometimes, it is hand to tell when to begin this process, however, a good rule is to start your step when
the pitcher brings their leg up as part of their throwing motion.

For the upper body, swinging can be difficult to get the hang of. Many people will swing their arms out because that is where they
think the power of your swing comes from. However, as previously mentioned, the rotation of your hips is where the majority of
your power comes from. The first part of your swing is to drop your back elbow so that it is almost touching the side of your torso.
Then, you want to swing your arms around and twist your torso the same way at the same time. This swing of the arms and twist of
the torso should coincide with the twist of your hips. Make sure to continue this rotating motion even after you have initially hit
the ball to ensure maximum power.

Now that you have learned the mechanics of the swing, there are a few things left to remember. One of them is to always keep
your head on the ball. Everyone knows that you want to watch the ball as it is coming in, but what will happen when many people
swing is that they take their head off the ball to look where the ball is going, hoping to see a great hit, and miss the ball as a result.
Always keep watching the ball, until contact comes, and when it does, look at the base you are trying to run to. Another thing to
remember is that if you take your hand off the bat too early, you will lose power. Try to fully continue your swing before you take
off a hand. The last thing is where you want to hit the ball. (Use bat as demonstration). Here is the “sweet spot” of a bat. You want
to hit it in this area so the bat will give you the best hit it can. The further outside this you go, the less power you will get, and if you
go too far, you can really vibrate the bat, which can hurt your hands.

batters, only a few)

1. Where do you want your weight to be when you are swinging? A. Back leg
2. Where does the majority of your swings power come from? A. The rotation
of your hips.
3. What is the first part of your swing for your upper body? A. The drop of
your back elbow to your side.
Drill to show skills learned by cadets in TP1
9 mins
Drill:

Cadets will be in field, or wherever completing drill, when it is a cadets

turn, they will step up to the plate, and hit off a tee, if their hits are
proper and consistent, as judged by an instructor, they may move up to
soft toss. An instructor will stand behind an L-Screen, and pitch balls at
them softly, and cadets will hit these balls. Feedback and adjustments
from instructors will be happening at all times to help cadets get the
perfect swing.

The completion of the drill will serve as the confirmation of the activity.

30 secs The completion of TP2 will serve as the confirmation, it is

demonstrating the skills that were taught in TP1.
