“The first 40 hours: Week 1 On the Job Training”

The first week of our On the Job Training at Creotec Philippines has been
challenging but as the same time it was interesting because finally we can apply our
learnings from previous years in the virtual work-from-home setup. This week shows the
profile of company, its departments and functions of each department, and also giving
lessons about how to improve to become an effective and efficient employee. We do
tasks like submitting Non-Disclosure Agreement, Consent Privacy Notice, Resume,
Application Letter and Memorandum about viewing a payroll slip. We also had post quiz
in every topic that we tackled like understanding Japanese culture in Business setting,
how to prepare for a job interview and what are the work ethics that we should apply in
our future work. We also took Personality, English Proficiency, and Typing Quiz to test
our current knowledge about ourselves. And lastly they let us show their software used
on the company and what are its features and how is it functioned. In doing those tasks,
I feel like I really doing the actual process of applying for the job, being hired and
oriented in the workplace even if it is virtual. I was very interested on how the company
operates, especially in accounting side and how the topics that we learned were applied
in actual work like computing the net pay, how to prepare the payslip and how to
compute the withholding tax. But even the tasks were difficult to finish considering the
internet connection in our place and the technicality of some tasks, I always prepare
myself to be resourceful, observant, disciplined, calm, responsive, optimistic and
resilient on doing those tasks because I know this was part of my training to become an
efficient and effective employee not just in Creotec but also in my future superior and
colleagues.

During the first week of On the Job Training, there are tasks that challenges my
capability not just an accountant but also as an employee. Like making a video
recording of myself telling about my personal information and my justification to hire me
as a regular office staff. I find it difficult because aside from selection of the words that I
used, it was really difficult for me to produce a video recording without any unnecessary
noises and having a stable internet connection because it should be uploaded in
Youtube. Another task that I find challenging was the daily submission of the 5S, which
was a set of standards of organizing or cleaning your workplace. I find it difficult
because I had to picture and organize or clean not just my workplace but also all around
the house, and it should be on the checklist of the 5S that they provided daily. To
overcome such challenges on those tasks, I talked to my mom to help me find a place
where I can work with stable internet connection. And for the 5S, I told my mom to list
down all the places in the house that needs to be organized or cleaned so that I can do
my 5S checklist in advance. It’s been a wonderful start for us trainees to improve and be
exposed on the actual work related activities. And we hope that in the next 40 hours, we
will grow further to become an efficient and excellent accounting employee.
