ABSTRACT

On the job training is the one in which the students I was given a chance to apply the
theories and computation that they have learned from the school. It acquiring
knowledge about one’s profession is proper training in the industry. The OJT is the first
way in our journey as a future engineers because it helps us to acquire relevant
knowledge and skills by performing in the actual work setting. It is important to know the
capacity and what to improve in the actual work in your profession.

INTRODUCTION

On-the-job Training or OJT is a component of the college curriculum that strives to

educate and prepare the students for their future careers. For us students, an OJT
provides opportunities to go through the actual practices of a specific job using the real
tools, equipment, and documents. On the job training or OJT is one of the ways that we
as a student are given the opportunity to put our school-learned theories and
calculations into practices. It also assists us in gaining useful information and skills by
allowing us to practice in a real-world situation.

On-the-job training is one of the very important and enjoyable parts for an engineering
student.

This pandemic is not a hindrance to experiencing this OJT, it is online but you gain a lot
of experiences and knowledge. In my journey on this Online OJT, I experience making
an actual building design project. It is not easy at first but in the process, you can able to
make it. It also helps us to enhance our capability in making an actual project. Aside
from that it also enhances your skills on AutoCAD that you can use in your future as an
engineer. I am happy to be part of this Online OJT, a lot happens every single day that
makes you become better and better as a future engineer. Let say this OJT has many
difficulties like adjusting to this system but in the end, you realized that it is worth it
because you gain a lot of experiences and knowledge.

OJT ACTIVITIES

Narrative Experience
On our first week on OJT, I experienced doing an ocular inspection of the area particularly in
Buldoc Hall inside the University. In the entire OJT, I experienced making a school building
design. I also experience designing a floor plan, foundation plan, perspective views, and other
parts of the building project. I experienced also how to estimates the materials and their cost.

Aside from the learning on making a school building, we experience some difficulties and
struggles in the process of making a school building like lack of experiences and equipment.
Observations

I observed especially our school Notre Dame University is that they will always challenge the
students to get more experiences and also to sharpen our skills and ability to do things. I
observed also that they do their best to make it possible for the OJT even if it is online.

I observed on this online OJT is less experienced on the actual site, you can’t feel the vibes on
the office of the company. But I am happy because I have experience making an actual building
design.

Participation

I participated in doing the ocular inspection on the buldoc hall inside the university, working on
the perspective view of the project, making the weekly report, checking enhancing the AutoCAD
work of my groupmates, making a roof plan and column details, and costing estimates.

Interaction
Notre Dame University
For Social Transformation in Mindanao

Our group used messenger to communicate with each other to help each other when they need.

We used the Gmail chat room and Google classroom to communicate with our respected
supervisor, Engr. Audrey B. Aba.

Challenges

Adjustment is the one that we encounter challenges on this online OJT, we need to adjust
because this is not the OJT that we know. Another challenge is communicating with my
groupmates because of the poor internet connection. And lastly finding a suitable company that
can accommodate us to online OJT.

Problem met and solution offered

We encounter poor internet connection, because of that, we may not able to make a group
video call regularly. As a solution to this, we need to do our meeting face to face with proper
safety protocols. We encounter also unfamiliar computation in our design so that we need to do
research about this to get more ideas and knowledge.

PERSONAL EVALUATION, CONCLUSION & RECOMMENDATION

Accomplishment & Contribution to industry partner

We as a group contributed to our beloved University by accomplishing the University’s
possible infrastructure proposal; Senior High school Building Buldoc Hall. We
accomplished the Design of the school building, its details like the floor plan,
perspective view, and etc. We have done also the computation of the materials needed,
the costing, and the design computation.

Capability Gains

Lots of improvement that I gain on these 240 hours of OJT. I learned the process of
making a school building design. I enhance also my capability of computing and
estimating the school building design. Lastly, I improved my AutoCAD skills and learned
some techniques that make your work faster and easier.

Conclusion

In our 240 hours of online OJT, we accomplish making a school building design of Notre
Dame University – SHS. I am happy to be part of this project because I learned a lot of
things that I can use in the near future. I put my 100% on my assigned task that is given
to me, checking it every time to time to make it perfect and detailed.

Recommendation
Notre Dame University
For Social Transformation in Mindanao

I recommend that give at least 1 lecture every week so that the students gain more
knowledge and idea about the reality as an engineer.
