This narrative report contains the daily experiences, learning’s, reflections, Insight

gained and some supported documents required for the Culminating Work Immersion

subject of the graduating Senior High School students.

Work Immersion refers to the part of the Senior High School (SHS) Curriculum

consisting of 80 hours of hands-on experience or work simulation which the Grade 11 and

Grade 12 students will undergo to an actual work related environment that will help

students to be familiar to one’s chosen field of specialization to enhance skills and

competence. Aside from giving students an experience, it will also help to show students

the reality of being a working person. Working is not easy as people think, it requires

dedication, commitment, patient and perseverance in order to do the given job

successfully.

A study conducted by the People Management Association of the Philippines

(PMAP) in2006, emphasized the importance of an effective on-the-job training program.

Achievement of the OJT program objectives ensures the possibility of good performer

graduates. The opposite will most likely produce poor performer graduates thus, promoting

job-skill mismatch.

One of the goals of the K to 12 Basic Education Program is to develop in learners the

competencies, work ethic, and values relevant to pursuing further education and/or joining

the world of work. To achieve greater congruence between basic education and the

nation’s development targets, Work Immersion, a required subject has been incorporated

into the curriculum. This subject will provide learners with opportunities: (i) to become

familiar with the work place; (ii) for employment simulation; and (iii) to apply their

competencies in areas of specialization/applied subjects in authentic work environments

One of the goals of the K to 12 Basic Education Program is to develop in learners
the competencies, work ethic, and values relevant to pursuing further education
and/or joining the world of work. To achieve greater congruence between basic
education and the nation’s development targets, Work Immersion, a required subject
has been incorporated into the curriculum. This subject will provide learners with
opportunities:

1. to become familiar with the work place;


2. for employment simulation; and

3. to apply their competencies in areas of specialization/applied subjects in


authentic work environments.

DEPLOYMENT DAY

At exactly 9 o’clock in the morning of February 24, 2020, the orientation about
work immersion started. It was held at Emilio Aguinaldo College Cavite Campus and

headed by _____________ which is one of the Human Resource Department. Before the
discussion, an attendance sheet was administered to the student for them to write their
name as well as their signature that serves as their attendance for the first day of the work.
After that, Ms. _____ instructed the student to write their names at the Daily Time Record
that is provided by each student. Emilio Aguinaldo College is named after a Filipino
revolutionary, politician and military leader who is officially recognized as the first and the
youngest President of the Philippines and first president of a constitutional republic in Asia
which is Emilio Aguinaldo (Wikipedia, n,d). According to Eac.Edu.Ph (2017), the school
was founded by Dr. Paulo C. Campus in 1957 as a midwifery school and it was named as
Marian College. However, On September 1977, the name Marian College was changed to
General Emilio Aguinaldo College, to apply to both Manila and Cavite Campuses. This
was in consonance with the new directions of the government in recognizing and honoring
national heroes. Subsequently, the title “General” was dropped, and the College was then
called Emilio Aguinaldo College. The Philosophy of the institution is “Emilio Aguinaldo
College is a private, non-sectarian, co-educational institution of learning that fosters equal
and fair opportunities of education, the total development of a person, and one’s national
identity while conscious of his/her role in the global community.” While the Vision is
“Emilio Aguinaldo College envisions itself as an internationally recognized private non-
sectarian academic institution rooted in the Filipino nationalist tradition that consistently
pursues the advancement and welfare of humanity.” Meanwhile the Mission is “Emilio
Aguinaldo College provides a learner-centered, inquiry-based, and socially relevant
academic community.” And lastly, Virtue, Excellence and Service is its Core Values. They
also tackled the work ethics that students needed to follow such as confidentiality, no using
of cellphones during work hours and greetings and that is the end of discussion. I was
assigned at the Office of Registrar and accompanied by my two fellow work immersion
students which are Frinzess Velasco and Roiz Quillao. The first thing we did upon arriving
is to greet them “Good morning” and when the Ms. _____ arrived, they gave us a lot of
paper works. Frinzess and I are entrusted to stapler all the bond paper that they gave to us.
On the other hand, Roiz is entrusted to put a carbon paper in between two bond paper. We
even helped each other when they added another paper work to do. I did the cutting of the
carbon paper, while they did the inserting of carbon paper in between two papers. At
exactly 5 o’clock in the afternoon, the task was finished and it was the end of the
Deployment day.

Day 2 (February 25, 2020)

Day 2 (February 26, 2020)

Second day of work immersion started at nearly 9 o’clock in the morning. When I

entered the room, I greeted everyone a “Good morning” and immediately looked for my

fellow work immersion students, but I only saw one person. It was Roiz, while Frinzess is

not around at the moment. Ms. _____ gave us a task which is called “Filing”, where we

need to find the person’s folder and put the Data Privacy Paper that the college students

have answered before, which are now the papers that she has given us. Filing helps people

to be organized, and it is keeping documents in a safe place or cabinets and being able to

find the file easily and quickly. It was hard to find all those people in a view of fact that

you need to be observant in every boxes that you are currently looking on, considering that

you might have the chance to miss the person you are looking for. At the middle of filling

the documents, Ms. ______ called us in a reason of an introduction of us, the work

immersion students to Engr. Elisea _____, the Head of the Office of Registrar. By just

being with the staff for a very short time, I can tell that the management of the department

are well-handled and successful because of her. In addition, I know that she’s an

approachable person, as well as a kind and hardworking head. Afterwards, we got back to

doing our task. However, Roiz is commanded by one of the staff to find a ____________

in the room. While, the other staff ordered me to go to principal office of the Senior High

School Department for the Principal to sign the paper, it is also called as “Received”. After

that, I returned to the place to get the Form 137 of the one student. And when I got back, I

continued to file documents. In the first three hours of filing, Roiz and I had a hard time

looking for the folders of the people. But later on, when we are now looking at the room

full of documents, I discovered that most of the people’s folder that we needed to find are

placed on the “on process” boxes and arranged by their chosen courses. By exactly 5:00

pm, the staff told us to continue what we are doing by tomorrow morning, and that is the

end of the second day of work immersion.

Day 3 (February 27, 2020)

This day is one of the most tiring day of Work Immersion. On the third day, I have

arrived at exactly 7:57 o'clock in the morning, on 27th of February 2020. The first thing I

did while entering the room was to say our usual "Good Morning" as a sign of respect to

every personnel in the Office of the Registrar. I patiently waited for my two fellow work

immersion students to arrive so we can now continue filing the documents that we did not

accomplished to finish on the second day. When Roiz arrived, we immediately decided to

start and get the files and started filing the given documents. However, the two of us are

commanded by Ms. _______ to do the "receive" or the signing of documents in the office

of the Principal of the Senior High School Department. When we got back, we are happy

that we saw our other fellow students that was also assigned in the Office of the Registrar,

which is Frinzess. After that, we continued to file the remaining papers that contains the

college student's Data Privacy. Unfortunately, after how many hours and tries of finding

the student's folder, we failed to file for the other college student. On the other hand, Ms.

_______, one of the personnel in the Office of the Registrar, assigned us to file a receipt,

medical certificate, permission letters, and even the student’s grades throughout the

different school years. Almost every file is too old, the years ranges from 1996-2019. The

one that I got even has her I.D inside her folder. The last thing that we are appointed to do

is to insert the Philippine Statistic Authority (PSA) or the certification of life birth and

form 137 of the graduating Senior High School student. It includes all of the section of

Accountancy, Business and Management (ABM), half of the sections in the strand of

Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), and lastly, all of the section

in Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) strand.

Day 4 (February 28, 2020)

Fourth day of Immersion, February 28, 2020. We started to continue filing the

remaining Birth Certificate and form 137 of the graduating Senior High School student

when the clock hits at exactly 8:00 in the morning. We prioritize to check and file

documents especially those section whose student has recently submitted their

requirements for them to be able to step on stage or in other words, to graduate. First, we

file the half of the section in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)

strand that we did not have the chance to finish yesterday in a reason that we did not have

enough time. Last but not the least, all of the section in the strand of Technical Vocational

Lifehood (TVL). In the middle of filing, Ms. ______ appointed Frinzess in a different task,

and it is called “Photocopy” of the Tutorial Class. It has three copies, one for student, the

applicant and the registrar. Meanwhile, Roiz and I are also commanded by Ms. _______,

which handle the Grade 11 Senior High School students, to receive from the “Budget”

window which is located at the left side of the Office of the Registrar, and the department

of “School of Nursing” that is located at the second floor of the first building. After thirty

minutes, we are entrusted to do the “receive” again, but this time it is from the Human

Resource Management and Development Office, placed at building one. At exactly 1:00 in

the afternoon, Ms. ______ asked us to file the Form 137 of the Grade 11 Senior High

student and labeled it by each letter of their surname. It was hard and it is time consuming

since the whole section by each strands are fixed in one brown enveloped, not like the

folder of Grade 12 students which is arranged by each section. Roiz decided to choose the

STEM, then I choose to file for the ABM strand. When the working hours ended, I finished

checking and labeling at those people who has their surname starts with letter “R” While

Roiz stopped at the letter “D” in a reason that it has a lot of section as well as a lot of

student.

REFLECTION

Deployment day

The deployment day made everyone nervous since it is the first day of working in

the facilities of Emilio Aguinaldo College Cavite Campus. Building a school need a lot of

patience and perseverance since it is the foundation of education as well as for it to be

successful in disseminating knowledge to young minds. I thought that I will be placed in

the College of Law since it was my chosen course whenever I’m applying for college.

However, I am not protesting that they placed me in the Office of Registrar in a view of

fact that I like how people in the department treat us. I’ve never been welcomed in my

whole life like that, they made us feel like we are one of them, they always secure our

safety and they are always asking if we are hungry and for me that is what work immersion

students needed. I realized that you should still be thankful of the things that everybody has

given you, because others don’t have the chance to experience it. Appreciate all the things

that people did just for you to have that work experience, they worked hard for it. In

addition, in order to do thing happily and quickly, you need to coordinate with the people

around you. You need to have a union, you need to use your given skills to help each other.

By that, you will have the teamwork that you always dreamt of.
