In the mother's message to her daughter, the mother used ordinary language and
words that signal intimacy like terms of endearment such as "sweetie" and “baby,”
which also show that they have a strong bond relationship with each other that is
called a mother and daughter relationship. Moreover, the mother also used the
singular personal pronoun "I" in her message and informal language that takes a
personal tone, which also shows that the message is personal.
On the other hand, the message of the front liner does not refer to the specific
person, and there is no closeness or special bond between the audience, unlike the
message of the mother, which refers to the specific person and has a special bond
with the recipient. As a professional worker, the front liner used formal language,
formal tone, and no use of colloquialisms that made the front liner’s message
credible and convincing to the audience. The frontliner uses familiar words, and the
message is clear, making it easier for the audience to understand since the message
is for public.
STYLE
In the mother’s message to her daughter, the mother used an intimate speech
style, and there was no formality in the message she made, which shows that
she has a special bond with the recipient, her daughter. On the other hand, the
frontliner used a formal speech style and appropriate words to the audience.
Moreover, the message of the frontliner is not personal, and there is no special
bond between the frontliner and the audience, unlike the mother's message to
her daughter.
CONTEXT
One of the types of speech contexts they both use is interpersonal. Even
though they have the same speech context, they still vary from each other
since the message created by the frontliner is to provide information,
important reminders and encourage everyone to follow health protocols.
Unlike the mother's message to her daughter, which shows affection, love,
and directly to a specific person.
LENGTH
The front liner's message is not too long since it is just about giving a
reminder to the audience and being direct to the point. On the other hand, we
can see that the mother's message is longer than the message of the front liner,
perhaps because of its closeness or a special bond to the recipient, which
made her write a long message.
CONTENT
The content of the front liner's message is about providing information,
important reminders and encouraging everyone to follow health protocols.
While the mother’s message is about her great love for her daughter, that
shows love and affection.
The message of the front liner to the people and the message of the mother to her
daughter shows that there's a difference in regards to the language used, style,
context, length, and content. Furthermore, this also shows that the shift in speech
styles, speech context, and so forth significantly affects the message, language
form, and length of creating a message.
