must be read and observed in the:
General Safety Notes (TD00-000.860.01.xx.xx)
and
Product-specific safety notes (CT02-025.860.02.xx.xx)
The product-specific safety notes contain important information about:
• General safety information about the gantry, patient table, and laser products.
• Attachment of screws and nuts, adjustment instructions for torque wrench and use of
Loctite.
• Safety advice (hazard keys)

High voltage

NOTE Dangerous voltages may be present.

Switch off the main power supply before working on the sys-
tem and secure the system against unintended switch-on.

Allow at least two minutes discharge time after switching off

the system. Prior to starting work on the components indi-
cated below, measure the voltage level in the PDS (right gan-
try stand) between D450 X7 and X9 for Spirit, or between fuse
holders F3.2(+) and F4.2(-) for Emotion 6/16 (2007). The volt-
age must be below 40 V DC.

Working in the gantry

• Prior to starting work in the gantry:
- Wait until rotation has stopped
- Disable gantry rotation via service switch S5 on MAS D301
- Use the mechanical brake to prevent gantry rotation while working in the gantry.
- Connect the stationary and rotating part of the gantry with a ground cable before
working in the gantry.

General 0

The BIOS installation applies to the following Tower types:

• All ICS Tower 7
• All ICS 8B/9B/9B2 and IES 8/8D/8E towers

Create the BIOS CD / CD, DVD Firmware update CD

Download the necessary BIOS file from the Intranet. Navigate to “http://cs.med.sie-
mens.de/cms/en/home/default.asp” and follow the path “For Service > Prod-
uct Information > CT Systems > Software download”(,
https://cs.med.siemens.de/cms/productinfo/default.asp?start-
folder=c0cbfe3b3a34314406febf236e20f8f1).
Download the BIOS/CD, DVD Firmware file
• In the “CT-Software Update Page”, left-click the file to be downloaded.
• Save the file to the hard drive c:\temp. When finished, close the window.

Extract the zipped file

• Go to c:\temp in the Windows Explorer.
• Right-click the BIOS file you just saved and select “ Winzip > Extract to ...”
• Select c:\temp in the window that appears, and click Extract.
¹ The file will be extracted to c:\temp.

Label a blank CD-R/FD with the file name of the downloaded file
• For ICS Tower 7, e.g., “10142439 VA01B Tower 7 CS”
• For all types of ICS and IES Tower 8 e.g., “10143567 VA01G Tower 8 CS”
• For all types of ICS Tower 9, e.g., “ 10392570 VA01B Tower 9 CS”
• CD/DVD Firmware, e.g., “10304223 VA01B PlextorUpdate”

Burn the BIOS/CD, DVD Firmware CD

• Write the files to CD using a standard burning software, e.g. Nero, WinON CD.

NOTE Do not use the XP burn SW, it can create problems when
installing the update.

• For the CD, it is recommended that you burn the iso.file as an Image CD. As an exam-
ple, here are the work steps for creating the CD using the Nero Burn Software:
- Insert the labeled CD into the CD/DVD drive.
- Open Nero Burning Rom.
- Close the “New compilation” window that pops up
- Select Records > Burn Image... (in some cases select: File > Burn Image)
¹ an Explorer Window is displayed.
- Select the file that was extracted previously under c:\temp\
- Click Open
¹ The Burn Compilation window is displayed.
- On the Burn tab card, under Action, select the following two actions:
write & finalize CD.
- Click Burn (in some case it is Write, depending on the version)
¹ The Burn process starts.
- When finished an information window is displayed: “ Burning process com-
pleted successfully.”
- Click OK (in some case it is Done or Discard, depending on the version)
¹ The CD will be ejected automatically.
- Remove the update CD-R from the CD/DVD drive.

NOTE Once the files are extracted to the CD, they must not be cop-
ied to another CD for distribution (e.g. no CD-to-CD copies,
as it cannot be verified that the SW is virus-free).

Virus Check
• After the CD has been burned successfully, perform a virus scan of the CD after having
updated the virus scanning software with the latest versions of the virus patterns.
• Once you perform the virus scan without any problems, the CD is ready and the BIOS
update can be performed on the customer system.

Install BIOS 0

Worksteps:
• Remove keyboard and mouse connectors from the ICS and move them to the IRS. For
the monitor connection, you need the adapter that was delivered with the system

Fig. 27: Monitor Adapter

Pos. 1 DVI outputs of adapter (only output 1 used)
Pos. 2 DVI to VGA adapter (used if required)

• Select the correct CD (IRS 7A, 7B, 7G, 8A, 8B, 8F or 8G). Switch on the IRS, or restart
the IRS, if it is already running.
When the IRS starts to display text, press the Pause key to stop booting from the hard
disk. Insert the CD into the drive and press Return to continue booting. When a boota-
ble CD is in the drive, the IRS will boot from CD automatically, not from hard disk.
• The BIOS is installed only if the version currently in the IRS is older than the version on
CD. Therefore, quite often, this step is skipped - most spare parts are already delivered
with the newest BIOS.
The screen shows the booting process of Windows 98, next the progress of the hard-
ware detection is displayed and then the BIOS is flashed.

• Next, the system CMOS settings are loaded. This is briefly displayed (approx. 3 secs.)
by some kind of "matrix of numbers" filling most of the screen:

Fig. 29: Restoring CMOS settings

• Finally, the so- called "chassis- asset- tag" has to be entered.
- First, the 7or 8 digit part number has to be entered (example: 10144232 for IRS 8A).
The correct part number should already be default, unless it was changed by error or
fault, e.g., battery empty.
The part number of the IRS tower can be found on the label on the tower housing. For
the list of part numbers, see table below, column "Part number".
- Then, the IRS revision level is entered.
- Next, the 5-digit serial number is entered (example: 01234). Again, the proper serial
number should be the default, it can be found on the label.
- Then, the IRS ID is entered. Attention, this is NOT the "name" of the IRS. Exam-
ple:"8A" is the wrong ID since "20" stands for this IRS version.
See table below for "IRS ID". As before, the ID should already default to the correct
value unless it was previously changed manually or by error.
- When all values have been entered, the 20 character "Chassis Asset Tag String" is
displayed, see example:

Fig. 30: Example of chassis asset tag string of IRS 8A serial# 01287
For informational purposes, find the complete syntax of the string in the table below.

BIOS installation 10.5

General 0

Create the BIOS CD / CD, DVD Firmware update CD

Download the necessary BIOS file from the Intranet. Navigate to “http://cs.med.sie-
mens.de/cms/en/home/default.asp” and follow the path “For Service > Prod-
uct Information > CT Systems > Software download”(,
https://cs.med.siemens.de/cms/productinfo/default.asp?start-
folder=c0cbfe3b3a34314406febf236e20f8f1).
Download the BIOS/CD, DVD Firmware file
• In the “CT-Software download”, left-click the file to be downloaded.

• For all types of ICS and IES Tower 10 e.g., “10498380 VA01A Tower 10”
• CD/DVD Firmware, e.g., “10304223 VA01E PlextorUpdate”

01.10 SSME CS
ICS - Tower 10B& IES - Tower 10D/E 97

Summary
The following steps are automatically performed:
1. System BIOS flash
2. Set System BIOS settings
