General 0
Only qualified and trained personnel are allowed to perform CT system installation, service,
maintenance and quality assurance.
To avoid any risk of injury to personnel or damage to the system, the safety instructions
must be read and observed in the:
General Safety Notes (TD00-000.860.01.xx.xx)
and
Product-specific safety notes (CT02-025.860.02.xx.xx)
The product-specific safety notes contain important information about:
• General safety information about the gantry, patient table, and laser products.
• Attachment of screws and nuts, adjustment instructions for torque wrench and use of
Loctite.
• Safety advice (hazard keys)
High voltage
Switch off the main power supply before working on the sys-
tem and secure the system against unintended switch-on.
Automatic procedures
Radiation protection
Bloodborne pathogens
IMS 1.1
Console 0
Depending on the system, the following options may be installed in the ICS:
• Additional monitors
Safety 0
Documentation references 0
Preparation 0
• Supplementary documentation:
To generate the backup and install the software, refer to “Installation of Software” (if
requested).
Detailed cabling information (interconnections) may be found under “System Installa-
tion”.
• If possible, clarify whether patient data have to be archived.
• Delete all patient data on the tower to be replaced.
• If possible, create an up-to-date software backup.
• If possible, note data, e.g. host name, static SRS routes, autoreports, service key,
regional settings. This information will be required for software installation.
• Shut down the software and switch off the system.
• Disconnect all cable connections at the rear.
• Remove the tower from its location.
• Remove the dongle.
• If installed, remove the optional components (refer to “Installation of Options”).
NOTE Some replaced ICS Tower 6B computers may have 2GB mem-

Worksteps:
• Remove keyboard and mouse connectors from the ICS and move them to the IRS. For
the monitor connection, you need the adapter that was delivered with the system
• Select the correct CD (IRS 7A, 7B, 7G, 8A, 8B, 8F or 8G). Switch on the IRS, or restart
the IRS, if it is already running.
When the IRS starts to display text, press the Pause key to stop booting from the hard
disk. Insert the CD into the drive and press Return to continue booting. When a boota-
ble CD is in the drive, the IRS will boot from CD automatically, not from hard disk.
• The BIOS is installed only if the version currently in the IRS is older than the version on
CD. Therefore, quite often, this step is skipped - most spare parts are already delivered
with the newest BIOS.
The screen shows the booting process of Windows 98, next the progress of the hard-
ware detection is displayed and then the BIOS is flashed.
• Next, the system CMOS settings are loaded. This is briefly displayed (approx. 3 secs.)
by some kind of "matrix of numbers" filling most of the screen:
