Pollution

Our earth is being polluted day by day which is killing people, plants, animals, and
our environment especially because pollution is the largest factor to global
warming.

Fact #1
Plastic is one of the world's longest-lasting pollutants. It's going to last, and often
400 years or longer. Plastic emits greenhouse gas emissions at any point of its
lifecycle after it is disposed and that leads to global warming. Almost all plastics
are derived from materials (mostly petroleum and gas) that are formed from fossil
fuels (like ethylene and propylene). The process of production and transportation
of these fuels creates thousands of tons of greenhouse gases and then plastic
output. For instance, 4% of the world's yearly production of petroleum is turned
into plastic, with 4% being used for the refining.

Fact #2
Water pollution harms coral reefs, marine life, and us humans. Around 3.5 million
Americans face a health issue from water pollution. One of the main ways water
pollution is caused from oil spills. The largest oil spill in history of the U.S was in
2010, called the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, 4.6 million barrels of oil got leaked in
the Gulf of Mexico and was set to take 14 years to clean. This means it is still
present to this day and is still going to take a couple years until its possibly all
gone. 11 deaths occurred along with the oil spill and 17 non-fatal injuries. The
amount of harm that much oil did to marine life and anything in the waters was and
still is horrible.

Fact #3
Recycling are made of less than 10% of plastic used in Canada. if we don't how we
handle plastic waste, it is expected, by 2030, an estimated $11 billion worth of
materials from plastic will be thrown away.
I think there is too much plastic in landfills and can be reduced if we put in the
effort to. Climate change is going to continue to get worst if we don’t act quick.
Here's a list of everyday items or tasks we can change/do to help our environment
 Bike when you can instead of driving
 Use a metal or glass water bottle instead of purchasing plastic ones every
time
 Switch to reusable wool dryer sheets
 Bring your own reusable bag to grocery stores instead of having to purchase
plastic ones every time
 Start recycling
 Make a compost bin
 Stop purchasing plastic straws and substitute it for a metal reusable one
 Instead of disposable razors, get a safety razor and switch the blade out
when needed
 Stop littering
 Use rags alternatively to paper towels
Even though these might not seem like much, if everyone tried to do a couple, we
could have a change for the better.
