WHO STANDS WHERE?

ISSUE ANALYSIS WORKSHEET

1. In the announcements, you will find a list of issues to choose from for this assignmnent. On the chart on the next
page, write in the issues that you selected below as the column headings.
2. Next, visit the websites of Canada’s major political parties to find out where they stand on each of the issues. You
can return to the assignment page for the links if needed. In the space provided, summarize the position of each
political party on the four issues, using point form. You can expand this chart as needed.
3. One extra row has been added to allow you to add in the name of one additional political party of your own
choosing. This could be a smaller party that is running candidates in your area, or a party that you’ve heard of in
the media.
4. Now that you’ve looked at the party positions, it’s time for you to take a stand and select one issue of importance
to you. What do you think about this issue? Who’s right? Why? What would you do if you were the Prime
Minister? Write one paragraph (5-8 sentences) to express your thoughts. Be sure both to express your opinion
and to back up that opinion with at least two specific facts.
5. When you’ve completed the chart and the paragraph, proofread it carefully and then submit it for evaluation.

The issue I have chosen is hourly wages. Since I'm about to reach the age a lot of teens start working, learning about wages is important. I think
the party who's doing the most/best is Liberal because they aren't only raising minimum wage to $15/hour, they’re also doing things to take care
of workers and apply better work conditions. First, they want to add a new holiday called, “Federal family day holiday” so workers can have an
extra day to spend with their families. Another thing the Liberal party wants to do is improve support for workers ' mental health, including
mental health as a particular components of occupational and safety, and require employers to take precautionary measures to address
workplace stress and injury. They want to change protocol that will preserve workers 'ability to work in extra time while giving them the right to
demand they are not working extra hours. New provisions to be developed with employers and workers' group that grant them the “right to
disconnect”. It would further proceed in the expansion of health care coverage from 15 to 26 weeks in order to support employees who are sick
who seek aid in paying expenses during rest who rehab, for instance those suffering from cancer therapies. These are just some of the things
they are planning to do which is much more than the other parties. If I was the prime minister, I would do all the same things as the Liberal party
or something along those lines because instead of just making minimum wage higher, they also want to make the work environment a better
place.
