Explanation of Sectional Format
The prayer digest is divided into sections. Section is sub-divided
according to alphabetical lettering that runs consecutively. Each
prayer is numbered within each section. Sections, sub-sections, and
numbers provide a reference for audio pronunciations of each prayer
stored at NakedBible.com.
Format of Each Prayer

Each prayer is listed accordingly:
• Original Language: Hebrew / Aramaic / Greek
• English Translation
• Transliteration / Pronunciation
Transliterations / pronunciations are pragmatic. Neither has techni-

cal accuracy in view.
1. Notes on Pronunciation
The goal is the simplest pronunciation possible for the purposes
of personal prayers, not for vocal performance or precisely accu-
rate recitation. Consequently, Masoretic accenting has not been
included, and so pronunciation (e.g., stress) may not conform to
such accenting. With respect to the divine name (YHWH), I have
adopted ADONAI, which is the conventional pronunciation of the
divine name. Vowels are to be pronounced as follows:

a = short a, as in “bat” e = short e, as in “bet”
ā or â = long a, as in “father” ē or ê = long e, as in “prey”
āy = ay, as in “aye” (“eye”)
i = short i, as in “tip” o = short o, as in “cot”
î = long i, as in “machine” ō or ô = long o, as in “rope”
u = short u, as in “cup” All superscripted vowels are
û = long u, as in “rude” short “half” vowels.
2. Notes on Other Transliteration Considerations

In concert with pronunciation, the goal of transliteration was sim-
plicity, not technical accuracy. For example:
• I have not included the daghesh that results from the

prefixed definite article.
• I have only included consonant doubling when it does

not impede vocalization or when it assists vocalization.
• I have adopted non-standard English letter equivalents

in place of standard transliterations for certain Hebrew
letters (e.g., kh instead of ḥ).
• Variation in long vowel markings was observed since

that was not an impediment to recognizing long vowels
for pronunciation (cf. the chart above).
• The transliteration “v” was adopted form b(eth) when

that consonant follows a vowel, and for waw when that
letter is a consonant.
