Passive Smoking is a Silent Killer

In our society, smoking is just like a regular habit. We can easily find someone smoking
in public spaces, restaurants, cafes, and maybe in our neighborhood. The smoke of cigarettes is
inevitable. Although some smoking space is provided, it doesn’t ensure us to not be exposed to
the smoke of cigarettes. We often see that smokers smoke even if there are many non-smokers.
It makes those people be passive smokers.

Smoking is very dangerous because cigarettes contain harmful substances such as tar and
nicotine. Tar can cause cancer, and nicotine is a substance that stimulates nerves, so people who
consume nicotine will be addicted.

Cigarettes are not only dangerous for active smokers but also a negative impact on the
health of those around them. This is because when someone smokes, the smoke from the inhaled
cigarette will be released into the air and can be inhaled by other people. The more often
someone inhales cigarette smoke, the higher the risk of health problems they experience. That is
passive smoking.

Passive smokers are usually not aware if they have been exposed to the bad effects of
cigarette smoke and will feel shortness of breath and chest pain, also have the risk of developing
lung cancer and heart disease, and can even cause death. It can also cause sudden death in
infants or what is commonly known as SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome).

As Ravindra L. Kulkarni said, "Getting exposed to secondhand smoke is just as bad as

active smoking and passive smokers often suffer from lung problems breathlessness and
allergies." Therefore, we should start getting used to living healthy without smoke and being in a
smoke-free area. Love yourself!
