Vanishing Glass of Milk Pro

Effect: surprise your audience with the disappearance of a glass of milk, before their very eyes.
Then you make public believe they discover the trick secret, but the comedy ends with a second
and shocking vanishing of the glass, with no explanation at all.

Materials you receive:

• A tricked glass.
• A tricked tube.
• The “stage”, made of steel.
• A cloth “curtain” for the stage.

Extra needed materials (not provided):

• Ordinary transparent adhesive tape.

• Opaque liquid (not transparent). It is advisable to use fake milk, which you may buy
from your magic dealer; real milk is difficult to clean and rinse after using.
• A syringe (of about 10 ml), with its needle (of a diameter of about 0,8 mm), of medical
use, easy to get in any pharmacy.

Preparation of glass and stage

1. The tricky “glass” has no bottom, and its walls are double, with a thin space between them.
In its upper border it has two tiny holes through which the fake milk may be filled into that
space, by using a syringe (PICTURE 1). The liquid should not reach the upper border but
only up to 2 or 3 cm below it, so as that, when the glass is moved, the liquid in it will move
in the same way the milk in a regular glass does.
2. After filling the glass in the above said way, use a little piece of adhesive tape to seal those
two holes, to prevent the “milk” to escape and drip from them, in case the glass be
occasionally inclined or accidentally dumped (PICTURE 2).
3. Fix the “curtain” cloth around the front and lateral borders of the stage (PICTURE 3). The
upper border of the curtain hides some magnets, which will adhere to the metal stage.
Now you are ready to present the trick.
Performance:

1. Take the “stage” (from its back border) in one hand and the milk glass in the other. Both,
and the tube, were ready on a nearby table.
2. Pretend to drink a sip of milk, in order to tilt a little the glass and to let the public see how
the milk in it moves. Then leave the glass on one of the ends (right or left) of the stage.
3. Rise the tube from the table and show it is empty. You will show it preventing the audience
to see its double walls, which are visible from one of its ends. You will also hide from the
public sight, the small hole in its wall.
4. Put the tube over the glass, covering it completely. Now move the tube along the stage,
without rising it. When the tube passes over the hole, on the center of the stage, the glass
will slide down and remain hanging from the stage by its upper border.
5. Rise the tube again showing the glass of milk has disappeared. Show the interior of the
tube: the public sees that it is empty; there is no glass in it: the glass is gone! Leave the
tube on the table and wait for the audience applause, or demand it.
6. There are now two ways of performing the following step: A) when leaving the stage on
the table, pretend you make a mistake and accidentally show the public the back side of the
stage; so the audience discovers where the glass is; you offer to repeat the trick; or B) to
tell the public you will explain it the secret, which you do, showing the place where the
glass hides, hanging from the stage. Now you openly recover the glass from where it is,
and tell the public that now, that they know the secret of the trick, you would like to show
it all over again.
7. In any of both cases you will repeat the glass disappearance. But this time, as soon as you
have covered the glass (which is on one end of the stage) with the tube, and without the
public noticing it, you put one fingertip inside the small hole on its wall and, through it,
press your finger against the glass, which in now into de tube. This way, when you move
the tube along the stage and pass it over the hole on the stage, the glass, sustained by your
finger’s pressure, will not fall through it, but remain inside the tube.
8. As you had done before, when you get the tube to the opposite end of the stage, you rise it,
showing it is empty. You leave the tube on the table, with the glass hidden inside it. But
now, the public thinks that the glass is hanging from the stage floor’s hole.
9. Suddenly and quickly you remove the curtain which covers the front and sides of the stage
and, surprisingly, it is seen that the glass is not there. This time it has really vanished !

Maintenance of tricked glass and stage curtain:

1. For a better care of the glass and to enhance its duration, it is advisable that, when the show
is over, you remove the adhesive tape from its upper border and, using the syringe, you
also remove the liquid from within the glass. Then, reload the syringe with clean water to
cleanse the interior of the glass. Repeat this last till the interior of the glass is completely
clean. Important: do not add any cleaner liquid nor chemical product, which could
severely damage the glass.
2. In case the curtain fails to adhere properly to the stage, it is due to a change in the position
of the magnet bar inside the cloth. To get it back to its original position, unpick the white
thread stitch in one of the ends of the cloth, pick the magnete bar out of the cloth and place
it again, now in its right position. To ensure it, sew it again with one thread stitch.
