This configuration shows a supply with 2 Canalis lines, each line supplying 2 racks
by means of tap-off units.
This type of architecture is recommended for:
b Rack supply safety. Each line distributes at most 50% of the power required for
rack operation. When a supply fault occurs on a Canalis line, the necessary load is
supplied by the remaining line.

rack PDU operation.
b An increased number of tap-off outlets, allowing utilization of tap-off units with
fewer feeders.

Presentation Metering

b For each rack, the solution allows acquisition of the following:

PD240321

b Consumption, current and power rate of each feeder,

b Status of circuit-breakers of each feeder,
b Current, power rate, voltage, cos φ and total harmonic distortion (THD) of each
line,
b Status of line protection circuit-breakers.

This information is stored and prioritized in the Twido programmed PLC dedicated
to each area (see diagram below).
It is processed by the monitoring module proposed in the Full pack offer or available
in TCP modbus frame exchange format usable by a site global technical
management system.

Consumption is measured directly by EN40 or PM9P energy meters in the tap-off units.
Circuit-breaker status is indicated by SD/OF auxiliaries.
This information is transmitted by the AS-Interface bus to the Twido programmed PLC.

The Canalis lines must be protected by Compact NSX circuit-breakers, allowing measurement of voltage, current, power rate, cos φ and THD.
These data are sent to the Twido programmed PLC by the NSX micrologic module via a modbus protocol.

AS-Interface Modbus Area

bus

A Data Center structure consists of several areas.

A area is made up of two rows of racks separated by an aisle.

For each area, the information from the tap-off units is stored in a metering module.

The metering modules are concentrated in an automation enclosure.

This modular organisation allows adaptation to all Data Center sizes and shapes.

15
Presentation Metering

Composition of the metering module

The metering module consists of:
PD240322

b A Twido programmed PLC,

b An iBusway for Data Center metering software,
b Two AS-Interface master modules,
b One power supply per AS-Interface bus.

The metering module receives information via the AS-Interface bus. This bus has a
maximum length of 200 metres with a line extension.
Twido programmed PLC
The Twido programmed PLC receives information from:
PD240323

b The AS-Interface bus from the tap-off units.

b The Modbus bus from Compact NSX circuit-breakers.
The Twido programmed PLC manages up to 8 Compact NSX circuit-breakers.

The AS-interface and Modbus buses on the same Canalis line must be connected
to the same Twido programmed PLC.

Each Twido programmed PLC can manage up to 2 x 58 AS-Interface input modules.

These AS-Interface input modules are installed in the Canalis tap-off unit.
The number of AS-Interface input modules depends on the number of feeders per
unit (see the tap-off unit choice tables on page 36).

Power distribution lines Rack supply

A Data Center consists of racks. Racks contain one or more server servers supplied
PD240337

by one or more rack Power Distribution Unit (rack PDU).

The rack PDU are supplied simultaneously by 2 lines, each with a maximum load of
50%.
Should one line fail, the entire load is then supported by the other line.

The size of the tap-off units used depends on several criteria:

b The number of feeders
Server b Feeder power
b Need for residual current protection
PD240338

b Whether or not metering is required

The space available to install the Canalis busbar trunkings may limit use of certain
tap-off units.

For quotation and installation that satisfy your needs, software quotation tools and installation guides have been
specifically developed for the iBusway for Data Center solution.

The installation guide

This document, to be ordered when carrying
out a project, explains the installation
procedure.

> Configuration of the iBusway
for Data Center application
> Commissioning

This guide is intended for:

> the panel-builder equipping the tap-off
units,
> the contractor installing,
> the contractor configuring,
> the Data Center operator who will use it to manage his site,
> the maintenance department for site management (adding/modifying tap-off units).

The CanBrass and CanCad applications

These tools, used to design the installation, allow graphic representation of
the Canalis lines and tap-off units. You can use the CanCad application to
represent the layout of the Canalis lines in an AutoCad environment and thus
validate project conformity.

These tools are intended for:

projects.
