Two years have already gone down the drain since this pandemic
has started. We can say that we have already spent these years with
countless lockdowns, quarantines, and isolations. Significant disruptions
can be felt with how we cope up with the occurrence. But, the real question
here is up to where will this pandemic lead us?
With how things are going on right now, schools are slowly starting to
contemplate on their reopenings. In a survey conducted by Social Weather
Stations (SWS), Eighty-nine percent of families with enrolled school-age
members said the current blended learning system is more difficult than
face-to-face learning. They also said that they mostly prefer the face-to-
face setup. This only implies that even parents, are having a hard time
coping up with the pandemic.
Maybe, yes, several reasons are there on why they should continue
the face-to face setup. However, these should be deliberately, carefully,
and considerately be considered against the significant risks we may face.
Sustainable solutions must be the number one priority to really make this
happen again. Budget allotments should also be prioritized for numerous
reasons. Allocations for the equipment like barriers, disinfecting materials,
face masks, alcohols and such.
Mitigating these challenges is really tough work to do which requires
a lot of decision making. I know that this should be digested step-by-step
for this a long-term process and solution. In this also, it really requires your
bold intention and vision for everyone. As a student leader, I have come up
with three core advocacies that can help us, everyone, to build a flexible
and resilient setup that can withstand these crises, the ‘build back better’.
