Infrastructure: First thing which comes to our mind is that to create a better infrastructure, a lot of

capital investment is required. Indian railways’ passenger segment mostly runs in losses, which makes
financial problems worse. According to a report of CAG, Operation ratio for Indian Railway in the year
2017-18 was 98.44 %.

Culture: The slothful work culture of Indian railways promotes delay in trains. There is strict need of
regular vigilance over the employees to ensure that they are fulfilling their duties on time.

Operational: There is need to upgrade technologies and also timely maintenance of the existing systems
which are being used. But the main problem in implementing new technologies is that most of the
workers are not qualified enough to use the advanced technologies. They should be trained properly
and there should be a proper hiring channel for hiring technical people.

Others: There should be provisions for dealing with areas passing through forests because many a times
wild animals come near the tracks and cause damage which results in accidents. But main problem with
working in such areas is that a NOC from forest department is needed which causes more delays.

Weather: A train delayed due to extensive fog is a common site in northern India. Trains should be
equipped with lights which allow loco pilot to see even in extensive fog. Also monsoon does a lot of
damage to tracks so there is a need of proper drainage system.
