What is a resource?
● Anything that can be used to produce or create goods and services to satisfy human
wants and needs. Examples: stock, supply, money, materials, staff, and other assets.

Categories of Resources used in business
There are two types of resources: Human and Non-human resources:
Human Resources are the people that make up Non-human resources: tangible or physical
an organisation. This includes physical and items that can be used to produce goods and
mental efforts of workers. These include: services. They can be created by man or nature.
These include:
● knowledge
● skills ● Money
● attitudes ● Material goods
● Values ● Office facilities
● Energy ● Machines
● Time ● Time and Energy
Skills: the ability to perform an action with determined results often within a given amount of time,
energy, or both. OR simply the ability to do something with a level of expertise. For example Kalvin
Klein might required persons skilled in garment construction for labour.

Attitudes: a predisposition or a tendency to respond positively or negatively towards a certain idea,


object, person, or situation.
What is technology?

the technical means by which people use tools, materials and knowledge to
accomplish tasks and to make life easier.
Classification of Technology

Simple Technology: the use of knowledge skills Advanced technology: the use of knowledge
and simple tools to solve particular problems or skills and advanced / complex tools and
to satisfy a need. equipment to solve a particular problem or
satisfy a need.
Tools: any object designed to a specific kind of work to which force must be applied manually.
Examples: stapler, guillotine, calculator and paper punch.

Equipment: any electrically powered device used to perform complex business related tasks.
Examples: computer, photocopier, scanner, electric sharpener etc.

Materials: any tangible item used with a tool or equipment to create an end product. Envelopes,
folders, fabric, metal etc.
Invention: the act or process of creating something new or innovative. For example: Thomas
Edson invented the lightbulb.
