Unidirectional communication
The sender can send data but
cannot receive it, meaning;
only one device can
transmit, while the other
can only receive.
Simplex mode can make full
use of the channel's
capacity by transmitting
data in a single direction.
Transmission mode with the
lowest performance

HALF-DUPLEX
Two-way directional
communication (one at a
time)
One device is sending, the
other is receiving, and vice
versa; Sender can both send
and receive data - one at a
time.
Whichever of the two devices
is transmitting at the time
takes up the entire capacity
of the channel. That is, the
channel's whole capacity can
be used in each direction.
Better than simplex but
provides less performance
than full duplex
