SOCIAL WORKER

JOB DESCRIPTION

Location: Head Office - Kenya

Organisation: Milele Home - Kenya

Reports to: Line Manager: Social Work Team Leader


Management: Joel Juma (Country Director)

Salary: 15,000-17,000 KSH

Working terms: On contract, full-time role, 8AM-5PM

Job description: Our Social Workers work with youth and families within our program’s family-
focussed care. Our areas of work are Transitional Program, Family
Reunification and Family Strengthening. We partner with families and
communities to see the lives of street youth transformed. Our mission is to get
street children into a loving family, providing access to education, and
creating opportunity for them to become contributing members of their
communities on their own. You will nurture and maintain professional
relationships, acting as support, guides and advocates. Our Social Workers
work in a variety of settings within a framework of relevant legislation and
procedures, supporting individuals, families and groups within the surrounding
community. You must be prepared to work with the most vulnerable of youth.

Key duties and ● Assessing, conducting interviews with individuals and families to
responsibilities: assess and review their situation;
● Recommending and sometimes making decisions about the best
course of action for a particular person or family;
● Counselling and offering advice to individuals and families;
● Actively working on the streets to build relationships and recruit youth
to attend the Transitional program;
● Connecting youth with resources and services;
● Arranging appropriate care and resources;
● Liaising with relatives, colleagues and other professionals;
● Liaising with, and making referrals to other agencies;
● Maintaining accurate records and preparing reports for legal action;
● Budgetary and managerial administration;
● Attending or contributing towards court cases;
● Abide by the legislation as well as enforce it;
● Participate in training, supervision and team meetings;
● Other duties as assigned.

Essential skills and ● A diploma/degree in Social Work.


experience: ● Proven work experience as a Social Worker for 2+ years.
● Must be fluent in both written and spoken English and Swahili.
● All necessary background checks will need to be done, as well as an
up-to-date police check.

● Have a passion to reach youth and families who do not know Christ

as evidenced by daily habits of spending time with Him and His Word,
active involvement in the leadership of our church, and a commitment
to maintaining healthy accountability relationships with mature
Christians;
● Fosters a “can do” attitude that combines initiative, a sense of
urgency and a commitment to results;
● Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to
communicate clearly at a leadership level;
● Demonstrate strong leadership skills;
● Self-starter, motivated, goal driven;
● Proven ability to organise and manage many tasks;
● Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills;
● Computer proficiency in Google Drive and basic business software
tools;
● Flexibility, creativity, independence, accountability;
● A strong communicator who listens well.
