Reflection: Spiritual experience

Many people have grown up doubting the power of God and the love that God shows us

because of the challenges and the trials that we have faced in life over the years. The challenges

can occur through illness, through tragic situations that are unexpected, or during working

situations. The scripture describes that Paul and others who were with him went through

challenges and their days were darker, and therefore they started to give up on the hope that they

were saved (Hendriks, 2019). These were the words that the priest started within his sermon On

Sunday, October 10, 2021, at a regular mass at La Roche University, Magdalen Chapel, that

began at around 9:30 am and ended at around noon (Laroche, 2021). The mass offered in the

school every Sunday is attended by those Christians who are Roman Catholics to fellowship

together. The roman Catholics expect to fellowship together, spend time with God, and have all

that the Lord wants to share and reveal to us during the mass. This paper reflects a spiritual

experience of a roman catholic regular mass attended by Christian students.

This life is a great miracle that happens to people, and people should be thankful for the

love that Jesus showed to us for forgiving our sins through crusification. Due to this, we need to

understand that hearing the Lord and hearing words from people are two different things,

especially when going through dark days. Every Christian indeed requires counsel and wisdom,

especially during these current times where we are facing the coronavirus (Hendriks, 2019). Due

to the current situation, it is important to listen to experts and get knowledge and insights for

those considered specialists. However, as roman catholic Christians, and just like Paul, we

should be able to listen to the word of God when we are going through a storm in our lives.

Everybody has a different numinous experience, especially during the fellowship, which

feels like an overwhelming feeling that not even a human being can handle. That is a spiritual
feeling that happens during prayers and worship fellowships for people who believe in the holy

spirit. The spiritual feeling affects the human soul or spirit and not the physical aspect of humans

(Spiritual Practice, 2021). The mass experience helped me recognize a sense and a feeling from a

belief that there is a greater power that is more than myself and a greater being that is more than

human beings. The recognition of a greater being is through the prayers done in the fellowship,

which connects to the prayers I pray every day. Through praying and worshipping as a roman

catholic, I can influence and act my behavior according to the teachings of the word. In addition,

the mass taught me about strengthening my faith and belief, especially when things are hard, and

sharing my struggles with experts to get more genuine help. As people continue with the journey

of the pandemic that will only be seasonal, I will encourage people to seek the Lord and take

time to spend it with God like the mass experience where the people get hopes on better days.

While many people are still afraid and frightened by the current storm and loss of faith,

we as Christians have a good opportunity to ensure there is light in the darkest days and growth

of faith where there is fear (Spiritual Practice, 2021). The LaRoche university was brought by the

sisters of divine providence with a mission linked to the desire to create peace, justice, and

compassion. The mass experience showed the same values as the links of the school's mission

and the university's catholic heritage.

In essence, the concept of spirituality has played a vital role in my life as I have gotten

help on the behavior that I portray in front of people. Although life has its ups and downs, I still

believe that spirituality is good guidance in dealing with any life obstacles. During my

experience in the mass, I understood the word of God in different dimensions that I had not

understood in my early spirituality. I was able to interact with other Christians, and we shared
many life lessons related to spirituality. Some of the lessons we shared are how we can improve

our spirituality and help other people who want to understand God personally.
