The video educated me about how we filipinos are know for being caring. It also enlightened me

about how int precolonial times beliefs about health and sickness in the Philippines were intertwined with

mysticism and superstitions, and it’s roots in the caregiving offered by women, priests, and herb doctors, this

is when the culture of care in the Philippines began.

However, during the Spanish colonial period, women had few opportunities to be formally educated

in schools, and many wealthy Filipinos were not so fortunate to have houses where they could spend their

final days until death because Spanish colonial hospitals were only for the fortunate Spanish soldiers and

civilians.

Filipino women became caregivers for injured revolutionaries during the Philippine revolution. and

during the American period in the Philippines, Filipino women were given the opportunity to be educated as

nurses, under the supervision of their American nurse, until nursing became a full-fledged profession in the

Philippines, a knowledgeable career not only for women but also for men. Nursing history in the Philippines

provides us with the knowledge we need to better understand our profession, learn from the past, and dispel

myths in order to offer high-quality patient care.

The history of nursing in the Philippines has evolved with time, leading to additional innovations. In

the realm of nursing, there have been many advancements and improvements.
