This report is based on the effectiveness of leader and the need of their empowerment
for the success of the organization. The rising competition in the business environment
determines the need of empowered leaders and for this leader needs to adopt certain
tactics that could help them to remain motivated and empowered for organizational
success. The leaders must facilitate better communication, teamwork, organize specific
vision and devote their commitment to become an empowered leader.

Besides this, organizations are facing serious and intense issues due to the rise of
organizational politics. The organizations around the globe are facing this issue due to
many reasons such as scarcity of resources, personal relations, lack of adjustment and
changes in ranks. All these factors highly contribute in organizational politics that is not
only affecting the organization at internal level but also effects their reputation.
1. Introduction:

This paper will examine certain tactics that are considered significant for becoming an
empowered leader in this contemporary business world where business organizations
are facing an intense competition and need such leadership that could empower
workers and tackle the competition. This paper will also determine some factors that
contributes in the organizational politics and are important to be taken into
consideration for becoming an effective leader.

Leadership is basically a power through which an individual gets an ability to change or

influence the beliefs, values, attitudes and behavior of other people. It is a fact that a
person with strong abilities of leadership is a good example to the workers as the leader
who has a power to achieve effective results through admiration and trust. However, by
analyzing the contemporary environment, the emergence of internet and growth of
economic environment has made it much easier for business to communicate at
international level which has transformed the business environment and made the
environment more competitive. In order to keep float and remain competitive, it is vital to
have an effective and empowered leadership that can offer better-quality, low-cost
products and strategies that could control the environment. Good and effective leaders
have a power to motivate and influence employees by strengthening the positive culture
of organization (Hao & Yazdanifard, 2015, p. 1 (2))

2. Literature Review:
2.1 Tactics for Empowering Leader:

The phenomenon of empowerment is mainly composed of methods, processes,

techniques and tools that have been mainly developed in the framework of human
resource department, delegation of authority and motivation. The leadership is all about
becoming empowered and helping workers to be empowered through using various
tactics. Some of the tactics for becoming an empowered leader are explained below:

2.1.1 Creation of Vision and Values in Organization:

The most important and significant tactic for a leader to become an empowered in
organization is to create a specific vision and values for organization and the workers.
Appelbaum (2017) examines that it is important for leaders to develop a mission and
vision statement for the business that highly focuses on the customers and recognize
the important role of HR. Various MNC’s in this contemporary business world have
poured a great deal of efforts into creating a vision for company and as a result gained a
collaboration of empowered people (Appelbaum, 2017, p. 244 (4))

2.1.2 Maintain Open Door Policy:

The other tactic to be an empowered leader is to maintain the open-door policy for
workers in the organization. It is important that leaders must provide equal chance to
every employee to provide their opinions and ideas without any hesitation. This will be
led employees to feel valued by the leader who knows that their ideas would be taken
seriously by having an open communication that will ultimately motivate workers and
increase the worker’s trust in the organization and will enhance loyalty and satisfaction
(Shenhar, 2016, p. 9 (8)).

2.1.3 Facilitation of Teamwork:

The study conducted by Sreelakshmi (2016) examines that teamwork is regarded as the
most significant effort that determines that leader is empowered. By facilitating
teamwork in the organization creates an open and supportive environment and enables
empowerment to take place. It not only empowers leader but also empower workers
through having participative and quality circle teams. By facilitating teamwork help
leader to generate more productivity as it determines workers that they are not alone in
a process because they have an entire team for their support that empowers them,
combines strength, remove weaknesses and generate more effective results
(Sreelakshmi, 2016, p. 107 (3)).

2.1.4 Development of Communication Skills:

The other major tactic for a leader to become an empowered leader is by developing
strong and effective skills of communication as this attribute is regarded most
significantly for a leader. This complexity of competences and skills includes the ability
to listen actively and have a mind appeal, ability to build relations with employees and
communicate with each other directly increase an ability to lead a team with example
(Meraku, 2017, p. 337 (7)).

2.1.5 High Level of Commitment:

High level of commitment is a major technique that is needed by a leader to become an

empowered one. Hieu (2020) determines that if a leader demonstrates his/her
commitment towards specific tasks that will ultimately lead team to work in more
effective way. The leader must communicate the vision of the company y to workers so
they understand its value. By demonstrating high level of commitment towards work
supports the entire firm and foster coordination and facilitate the consistent decision
making with strategic objectives of the company(Hieu, 2020, p. 22 (2)).

2.2 Factors Contribute in Organizational Politics:

According to Ahmed (2015) organizational politics mainly recognized as specific

behavior and attitude of the workers in the organization that includes the intentional and
informal actions that influence the decisions of middle and senior managers to protect
and boost up the professional careers. However, politics in the organizations not only
effect the individuals but highly effects the entire organization (Ahmed, 2015, p. 122
(2)). Some major factors that contribute in politics in organizations are explained below:

2.2.1 Organizational Factor:

One of the most important factors that contributes in organizational politics is the limited
resources of organizations. When the resources like promotions and monetary
incentives in organizations are limited, people see organization as more political. Any
kind of ambiguity relate to the greater politics in organization. For example, the
ambiguity allows people to negotiate and redefine their roles. This freedom sometimes
becomes a political process. The ambiguity also results around the promotions and
evaluation of performances. The practices of human resources lead to a greater political
behavior like impression management throughout firm (Sultan, et al., 2015, p. 1006 (2)).

2.2.2 Individual Factor:

The other factor that contributes in organizational politics is the personal relations. The
misuse of personal relations in businesses results in high level of politics because
personal relationship has no space in the professional world and it is vital that people
must keep their professional and personal relations sperate. Such as supporting
someone with whom ones have good relations will drag down the wrong path and at the
end it becomes a reason for organizational politics.

2.2.3 Lack of Adjustment to Change:

Lack of adjustments in changes also results in organizational politics. The study

illustrated by Kapoutsis (2018) examines that change is a major part of organizations
and works have to keep their pace with changing surroundings but some workers are
unable to acknowledge the changes and unset for them. However, when an
organization have losers and winners due to change, then workers lose side with lash
out through subtle and underhand behavior to demean the persons who have happily
accepted the change in the workplace (Kapoutsis, 2018, p. 591 (2)).

2.2.4 Struggle for Power:

The primary reason for organizational politics is the struggle for power where one mover
up the ladder opportunities for rapid growth becomes less. The individual struggles to
prove themselves and reach to top position. the workers with lack of confidence
generally depict themselves as superior at expenses of others ultimately results in
organizational politics where workers use wrongful tactics to prove their worth.

2.2.5 Changes in Positions:

According to Mokhtar (2018) changes in position is another primary factor that

contributes in organizational politics. It occurs when the company starts new
appointments at top position and individuals get busy to score brownie points. After
certain time, it not only remains about positioning but demeaning, questioning abilities,
bad mouthing etc., However, getting ahead of others leads towards organizational
politics at its worst (Mokhtar, 2018, p. 102 (2)).
3. Conclusion:

The paper concludes that effective and empowered leadership has become the one of
the most significant factors for the organizational success. It is mainly because of the
raised competition which has increased the need of empowered leaders that lead
company and workers with example by sustaining their position strongly. However, the
leaders must make strategic vision, facilitate teamwork, develop skills of communication
and depict their high level of commitment in the organization that will not only help them
in achieving success but also make them an empowered leader of this contemporary
time. Moreover, organizations in this time period are facing serious issues due to
organizational politics. Therefore, it is important that leaders must analyze such factors
and make efforts to eliminate them in order to remain competitive.
