Catholicism vs protestantism
Henry VIII introduced protestantism into England for his
personal advantage. Some of the people accepted kings
religious authority but the rest followed the pope’s rules.
When Elizabeth came to throne in 1558 , she worked with
privy council to create a religious settlement, anglican
church which would unite the country into one church.
Queen mary I imprisoned Elizabeth on the suspicion of
complicity. It is very unfortunate to say that, these
powerful women rulers showed no interest in improving
the lot of women in their society. The protestants
restricted the scope of women’s authority and enforced
marriage on them to shackle them.
