1. Explain the importance of IMDG Code in the shipping industry. (10pts)

The importance of the IMDG Code is to enhance and ensure the

safe transport of dangerous goods while facilitating the free unrestricted movement
of such goods. IMDG Code is intended to protect crew members and to prevent
marine pollution in the safe transportation of hazardous materials by
vessel.The IMDG Code contains details of all the numerous dangerous cargoes
offered for carriage by sea and includes solid, liquid and gaseous substances. The
International Maritime Dangerous Goods code is a uniform code so it is applicable to
all cargo-carrying ships around the world. Ship-owners, ships operators, maritime
administrators, training providers, shipbuilders and equipment manufacturers must be
aware of IMDG code.
