Upon joining a vessel, new crew members should be given a familiarization tour to introduce them to equipment and the safety management system, including responsibility charts delineating duties for shore staff and crew. Crew must also familiarize themselves with muster lists, emergency instructions, assigned duties in drills, working hour policies, proper use of personal protective equipment, smoking policies, drug and alcohol policies, and the vessel's active safety committee.

Based on the video about Safety Management System that I have watched.
When joining your vessel,
You should be given a familiarization tour. The purpose of this tour is to introduce you to the various equipment and functions of the SMS. It shows of an example of a responsibility chart for shore staff and an example of responsibility chart for on board personnel. Those chart is made in order to make it easier for new employee to know his/her main duties. I also learned about muster list, the muster list and emergency instructions which are displayed on board. They specify details of the general emergency alarm signal and fire emergency signal. They show the duties assigned to the different crew. I also familiarize with the different drill that should be conduct on board. I also understand about the Working hours on board. I also familiarize with the different PPE. Smoking is only permitted on board under controlled conditions, while in the drugs and alcohol policy the keywords are Drugs, Alcohol, and Help to your fellow sailor. All vessel shall have an active safety committee meeting to discuss general safety and safety matters that can be improved.
