DIRECTIONS: Answer the following questions.

1. Make a process or solution on how to segregate the garbage onboard. And you can also use it on
your homes. (10pts)

1. Identify the classes of garbage.

Garbage onboard ships are classified into various categories in order to facilitate easy handling and
disposing of.

Garbage on ships is classified into the following:

 Plastics
 Floating dunnage, lining, and packing material
 Ground down paper products, rags, glass, metal bottles, and crockery.
 Domestic waste
 Incinerator ash
 Normal paper products, rags, oily rags, glass, and metal scrap
 Operational waste
 Animal Carcasses onboard livestock carrier
 E-Waste
 Cooking oil waste produced in the galley
 Cargo residues onboard ships carrying solid cargo in bulk which are not harmful to the marine
environment (Non-HME)
 Cargo residues onboard ships carrying solid cargo in bulk which are harmful to the marine
environment (HME)
2. Then segregate the different classes of garbage by designating trash bin on each classes.
3. And lastly, find a place for proper disposal, similar to what is stated on Marpol Annex V. There are
some regulation on disposing in some area, such outside and inside of special areas.
This is my own process of segregation of garbage onboard a ship. And I can apply it in my home.
