LABOTATORY ESSAY WEEK 6

1. Will you be able to maneuvers for the rescue of person overboard?

Yes. Because I think those maneuvers is essential when I am onboard. Especially when I am the OOW
or the one who saw the MOB. Because the life of my colleagues is in my hand.

2. What is the significance of knowing the maneuvers for the rescue of person overboard?

As a cadet, having a theoretical knowledge about rescuing a person overboard is a big advantage for
me. As an example scenario, if I am onboard and if I witness a person overboard, I am fully aware
and knowledgeable on my actions.The actions that I mentioned are Primary and secondary actions.
Primary actions are Shouting, throwing and pointing. Then the secondary actions are the initiate turn,
Pressing the MOB button on Global Positioning System (GPS), Transmit distress call by Very high
frequency (VHF). And also the exercises and mastering the different turns is very important . In order
to mitigate the hazard for the MOB and to be prepare when this kind of situation occur.

3. Do you think this module will help you in your chosen career or profession?

Yes, this module provide a lot of knowledge , even though it contains a lot of complex terminologies,
but I am able to understand with the help of our instructor. The illustration of different maneuvering,
made it look easy to understand.
In this module I learned about the Initial turn, this turn is use in order to reduce the probability of the
vessel propellers to strike the Man Overboard. I am also able to understand the execution of different
methods for turning. Those methods for turning are Williamson turn, stop/slow turn and simple turn.
