20 GOOD WORKHABITS TO DEVELOP

Here are the basic skills all newcomers need to have during higher studies and qualities
which will make the students to perform well in the company in their future.

1) Punctual. Be punctual for College. Even better, be early. Start the day feeling relaned and
settled.

2) Initiative. Take the initiative to get things (lone, even if that means you have to fill up the
kettle and boil the water just do it.
()
3) Neat, tidy and clean. Make sure your desk or workstation is neat, clean and pleasant. Clear
perishable rubbish immediately and wash your mug at the end ofthe workday. The same attitude
applies to the general office area and restrooms use them considemtely for others to enjoy as
well.

4) Organised. The best indicator is to see if your tay, desk, drawers and cabinets are clutt€red
and messy or well-labelled and orderly.

5) Systematic. A good system smoothens work processes. Generally, established companies

have a standard operating procedure (SOP) manual as a guideline. If all you have are verbal
instructions, develop your o$n checklist ofhow a task should be done.
I

18) Priodty, Know what is important aod what can be shelved. Stay fooused, keep to your
deadlines, pLan your work for tle day and the week and allow some flexibility for last-minute
projects.

19) Filing. This is important as you may need to retieve documeots or answer questions by your
siryeriors irnmediately, and they cannot be kept waiting. This appties to both physical files in the
cabinet as wsll as files on your computer.

20) Responsibility. Know your level of rcsponsibility with the college and do the best in your
duties.

Learning Contracts and Peer Group Tutoring

Self-Directed Learning: Learning Contracts

Independent study experiences can be extremely rewarding both for students
and their advising instructors. As our Teaching Tip, Self-Directed Leamins: A
Four-Step Process, explains, independent study gives students the opporhrnity to
explore not only a given topic but also their own leaming shategies and goals,
and leaming contracts can play a critical role in ensuring that this process is a
successful one. Leaming contracts give orurership to students over their leaming at
the outset of a project or class, they prompt students to reflect on how they leam,
(, and they establish clear goals and project timelines. For instructors, Ieaming
contracts serve as an outline for independent study units and as tools to aid
evaluation.

To maximize these benefits, students should develop their own leaming

contracts, which the advising instructor reviews to provide constructive feedback
and suggestions for modification. Because the contract is an agreement between
instructor and student, both should sign the frnal contract and, if modifications
become necessary as the leaming experience progresses, both should approve and
sisn the modified contract.
' 4. Meet with your advising instructor regularly to review progress and discuss

material.

Strategies for Peer Teaching Success

1. Role-play
Let's say your class is about to stafi a series of reading buddy activities. After

reading a passage aloud, aot out a scene that focuses on giving and receiving praise and

( feedback. Then, explore why your comments were or weren't effective. You can also

pair students to ty this activity themselves.Sharing definitions of praise and feedback

may be enough for some, but taking this simple differentiated instruction

aporoach should benefit the whole class.

2.Create a Reward System

To keep elementary students focused. openly acknowledge proper behaviour with

rewards. For example, each time a tutor provides proper feedback, give him or her a
(
blank ticket. You can give tutees tickets every time they successfully implement

feedback. At the end of each week, have students submit thefu tickets and hold a draw.

Wirmers will get a small prize.

Remedial Programs
. Remedial programs are used to address gaps in basic skills.

. Most remedial programs target reading and math weaknesses.

. Remedial programs are different fiom special education services.

. Remedial instruction can help struggling leamers shore up their basic skills.

. This extra supporl can help them catch up to their peers.

. And sometimes, ifa student's gaps in leaming aren't related to a disability,

it can eliminate the need for referral to special education.

. Leam how remedial programs work and how to spot an effective program.

What Are Remedial Programs?

Remedial programs are not the same thing as special education. Special
education is designed to meet the ongoing needs of students with disabilities to
help them make progress in school.

Remedial programs are designed to close the gap between what a student
kno*s and E!4!!9&Ipgg!9dlq . They often target reading or math skills.
In many cases, students are removed from their regular classroom and taught in
, another setting.

Many students require the extra help remedial programs can provide. For
example, there's a lot ofconcem about the reading profrciency gap. A high
percentage of fourth graders aren't proficient readers ( reading at grade level),
according to the National Assessment ofEducation Progress-

A number of states have policies that require schools to make sure third
graders reach certain reading benchmarks or be held back. (These are often
refened to as third-grade retention laws.) While some states are changing how
reading is taught, others use remedial programs to close the gap.
Exploring Other Strategies and Serviceslf your child has a leaming disability
and an @ (IEP), you might ask about the
possibility ofextended school vear (ESY) services for your child. ESY services
are specifically for special education, but many schools also have remedial
instruction during the summer. If your child doesn't have an IEP, ask the teacher
about summer remedial programs. You can also ask the teacher about educational
stratesies that can minimize or eliminate the need for remedial programs in yout
child's future.Another option is to@to find
out if he has learnins and thinking differences ln the meantime, a remedial
program may be just what he needs to start building his skills and knowledge.

SUMMARY

. Remedial programs offer more individualized instruction than full class

inshuction.
The teacher working with your child should have special training in remedial

programs.

Your child's remedial program should be research-based.

Top 12 Personality Traits of Ultra-
Successful Engineers

(,

Becoming an engineer has never been easy and every discipline comes with great
skills and is followed by even great responsibilities. Therefore, to be an ulta-successful
(t engin€cr you must have a speciltc set ofsoft skills aad personality traits which we'll
discuss in this article.

Many aspire to become an engineer bLLt not everyone is given the dght opportunity
and has developed the courage and personality traits required to enter such career and

become ultra-successful. The question is what does it take to become one ofthe best
engineers and how can one attain these behavioral qualities and personality haits to use

10. Assuming / Taking Ownership / Taking Action

Assumptions are always part of every plan, an example of this is assuming the
number of new products that will be sold (forecasting), profitability, competitor's action,
availability of products, aad the demands ol the products. Also, there are times that you
are on your own, running out oftirne, and must make a deoision, you must take control of
the situation and take action to stop a disaster from happening. What will you do? This is
one of the personality traits that are tough to hnd, but when found it is one that is
invested in heavilv.

( 11. Team Building Characteristics

This is one the most crucial of the pcrsonality traits if you're aiming to continue
your career in a leadership or management position. As every part of the team will play
an important role in every project and most team members require guidance and a
direction to be given to. It is vital tlat the team leader knows the strengths and
weaknesses of each member to maximize their roles in a project and to improve those
weaknesses over time, hence building a sfionger team.
Word Association Program
Association (from Latin - "join with') - in psychology - the regular link between
individual events, facts, objects or phenomena, which are reflected in the consciousness and
phenomena
retained in the memory. If there is an associative connection betwegn two psychical
A and B then appearance of phenomenon A in the human's mind will also awake appearance of
ohenomenon B.

Association is a definite reaction or response of the oryanism to extemal and intemal

initants. The roles of extemal stimuli play the sense organs: our eyes, ea$, tongue' nose and
tactile neural receptors. lntemal stimuli are thoughts and ideas, as well as signals from the nerve
endings of the intemal organs. Associations reveal themselves in changing the thoughts of a
person. Another simple definition of association it is the process when something causes

human to think about something else.

So, what is the association? Associations are ow thoughts, oul conceptions of good and

PICTURE PERCEPTION & DISCUSSION TEST

. PPDT stands for pictue perception and discussion test, as the name suggests, you need to
write a story on the picture sho*'n, nanate it and then discuss among group members to
make a common story.

THE XSSENTIAL PARAMETERS ARE:

l.Character
2. Age
3. Sex
4. Mood
5 (about the character's life)
. Past
6. Present (what is going on in the story)
7. Fuhue (What will happen)
(

These pammetels are very important for the story. A 3 minute time will be
provided to wdte the story. Th€ candidate is required to point the main character, his/ her
sex, mood, what has been the situation in the past, what is going on presently in the scene
and how is it going to be in the end. Write either in Hindi or English. No other language
is allowed. Write the plot ofthe story in the positive mood. The story needs to be written
not too long as the time frame is short.

Each candidate is required to narrate his story. The story should be narrated in 40-60
seconds at most. Do not stutter. Ifyou get stuck with English at any point, switch to
Hindi to be comfortable while narating. But retum to English as soon as possible. Do not
drag the story farther than required. Therc should be a message in the story.
After the individual narating, comes the discussion for which candidates are divided into
groups of about 15-20 people. The discussion is monitored by three persons: An
(' Interviewing Officer, a Croup Test officer and a Psychologist. The Discussion time is 20
minutes. In the meanwhile, the group has to come up with a common story and a person
to narmte that story. lt is oIIe h€ated discussion as every candidate has his orvn
perspective about the characters ard story and it takes a bit of time for 15-20 people to
arrive at the consensus.

Ajay was 5 when his parents died in a car accident. His grandfather raised him with all
his love. The blind love tumed Ajay in a spoiled child who liked to have everl.thing in his own
way. He was good in his studies. He has recently bagged his Master's in Business from a well
known University. But he was showing no interest in running the family business which was
sprcad across the whole county for last 3 g€nerations. It was getting difficult for his grandpa to
stop Ajay's extravagant spending. He decided to teach him a lesson. One day he called him to his
office and asked him to complete a project ofone ofthe managers as he went out on a leave due
to an emergency in his family. Ajay tried the whole day but couldn't come up with a proper
project as it was new to him and he was not in the habit to work for such long hours. In the
evening, he came to his grandpa in a defeated position and told him everything. His grandpa
looked at his secretary Mr Verma and smiled. Her patted Ajay's back and said that it was a plan
to teach him that eaming money is far more difficult than spending it.
