APPLICATION

Harrah’s uses data mining to identify its most profitable customers and predict their future
behavior. It then designs incentives to appeal specifically to these customers. Do you see any
ethical problems with this process? Is it ethical to encourage people to gamble? Explain your
answer.

Yes, one of the most obvious ethical problem in this process is when personal information is
discovered through web-data mining, someone’s privacy might be directly violated in the
process and can lead to the disruption of some important normative values.
