Hi!
My name is Irina Tarasova, and, since you’ve purchased this photo tutorial, you
must be a Tilda Bunny fan, just like I am.
Credit for the idea of a bunny of this type belongs to Bella Makaeva, I found a
pattern for the body of this bunny on the internet and modified it to perfect its
shape.
In this photo tutorial, I will teach you step by step, using detailed written
instructions accompanied by progress photos, how to crochet a bunny of 38 − 40
cm [15−15.75 inches] height (the final size will depend on your individual gauge,
and your bunny might turn out smaller or larger). On the last page of this pattern,
you can find the approximate measurements for this bunny.
For this project, you will need:
Yarn:
Alize Lanagold Classic (100 g – 240 m [3.5 oz – 263 yds], 49% wool, 51%
acrylic), colorway 01 cream – 2 skeins, for the body of the bunny.
– (2) half dome beads, diameter 1 cm [0.4 in] as eyes (may be substituted with

– dental floss for cinching (may be substituted with any other sturdy thread).
– plastic insoles (may be cut out from food tray or flat part of a plastic container)
– crochet hooks in sizes 2 mm [US steel hook 4, UK 2½] (only used for bottom
part of head and lower part of the
body); 2.5 mm [US steel hook
between 1 and 2, UK between 1
and 1½].
– bodkin or needle, at least 8 cm
[3.1 in] long, for attaching limbs.
– polyester filling
– bootmaker’s glue or superglue.

The head, torso, legs, arms and ears of

the bunny are worked in spiral rounds
through both loops of the stitch. Stitches
can be worked in either one of two
methods, – “crosses” or “checkmarks”.
I prefer “checkmarks”, the crocheted
fabric will turn out more pliable, and can
be better shaped when filling.

Round 1 – 6 sc into an AMR
Round 2 – (inc) – repeat 6 times – 12 sc
Round 3 – (1 sc, inc) – repeat 6 times – 18 sc
Round 6 – (4 sc, inc) – 6 times – 36 sc

If your bunny is a girl, you might want to

add eyelashes. Glue the eyelashes to the
backside of the eye domes/buttons with
bootmaker’s or super glue. Attach the
eyes by threading the shank of the button
between sts of Rounds 16–17 so that
excess shank protrudes on the inside of
the head.

Attach the eyes by sewing through the eye of the shank on the wrong side of the
fabric

Continue crocheting the head:

Begin stuffing the head. Stuff firmly, then tie closed.
Change to smaller hook (2 mm). Continue crocheting.

Stuff the head as firm as possible.
While stuffing, try to pull the head to both sides to form cheeks. The shape should
turn out as shown in the photos.
Now, make additional neck shaping decreases:
2 sc, dec, 2 sc, dec – this yields 16 sc.
Round 31 – sc around – 16 sc
Now we will increase again to reach the standard circumference.
2 sc, inc, 2 sc, inc. We now have 18 sc.
Change back to larger hook (2.5 mm)

Stuff the torso tightly, paying special attention to the neck area, fill it well since it
will need to bear the weight of a large head with long ears.
Change hook to 2 mm.

Round 65 – dec to end of round. Break yarn, secure and hide the end.

by-row instructions, you may find it easier to follow the chart for the sole. Work
starts at the bottom, the circled digits are the number of chains to be made (there
are 10 chains, the 10th I have drawn smaller, since this is the height-adjusting or
stepping-up chain before proceeding to the next round). Digits with arrows are the
numbers of the rounds, arrows show the direction of work.

From Round 14 on, the ear is worked in spiral rounds according to instructions, not
fixating on individual stitches. Please pay special attention to the fact that the
decreases in every 4th round have to line up exactly atop each other while creating
a slightly left-leaning increase line. The increase line in this exact spot will be
invisible later in the folded ear, creating a neater and more appealing look.

Attaching the limbs
The string joint for the legs is very important, because it will affect how well your
bunny can stand and be posed seated. I use dental floss since it is very sturdy and
easy to use. To attach the legs, thread a bodkin or long needle through the torso, for
which the needle needs to be really long – mine was 8.5 cm [3.5 in] long.
As a guide to guarantee that both legs

line up at the same level, I use a DPN.
I insert the DPN all the way through
the torso so it exits at the opposite side
(at the level of the 8th row from the
bottom). From both sides, I slip the
legs onto the DPN. Watch that the legs
are threaded absolutely evenly. You

Now, again insert the needle into the first leg, and cinch to pull the legs close.
Continue this way until the legs are attached very closely to the body. However,
don’t overdo it with the cinching, or the bunny will be unable to sit.
While attaching the legs, stand the bunny up from time to time and check that it
stands firmly without wobbling.

The arms are attached practically the same way.
Insert the bodkin/long needle at the level of the second round on the first arm,
secure the end, go all the way through the torso, exit the needle and go through the
other arm.
Go again through the torso and insert the needle into the first arm. Keep doing this
until both arms are securely attached. Cinch only minimally.

Shaping the snout
Insert the bodkin/long needle into the

lower part of the snout (Rounds 28−29), fasten the thread, needle the needle
through the snout, exiting in the middle of the head, to the right of the right eye.
Grasp one crochet stitch and exit the needle in the lower part of the snout. Cinch.
Insert the needle into the snout, exiting in the middle of the head, between the eyes.
Cinch.

Grasp one crochet stitch, insert the needle in the center back and exit in the middle
of the right half of the neck. Grasp one crochet stitch, insert the needle in the
middle of the right half of the neck and exit in the middle of the left half of the
neck.
If desired, the process of cinching the

neck and eyes can be repeated a few
more times in the same order.
With black embroidery thread, embroider a vertical bar on the snout.
