Hi!
My name is Irina Tarasova, and in this photo tutorial, I will teach you step by step,
using detailed written instructions accompanied by progress photos, how to crochet
a chenille yarn bunny of 36 cm [14.2 in] height (final size will depend on your
individual gauge). The result will be a loveable little bunny just like shown in the
photo.
The pattern also contains instructions to crochet and knit clothing for your bunny:
knitted shorts and hat, as well as a crocheted lace wrap with butterfly
embellishment.
Approximate measurements for the bunny are listed on the last page.
For this project, you will need:
Yarn:
For the body

Himalaya Dolphin Baby (100 g – 120 m [3.5 oz – 132 yds], 100% polyester),
color 80307 pale mint – 2 skeins for the body of the bunny.
Kamteks felting wool (50 g [1.75 oz] – 100% feltable wool), color 055 pastel pink
– less than 1 package, for the felted-on nose
For the outfit

Alize Lanagold Fine Classic (100 g – 390 m [3.5 oz – 426.5 yds], 49% wool, 51%
acrylic), color 111 violet – 1 skein for both hat and shorts
Alize Cotton Gold (100 g – 330 m [3.5 oz – 361 yds], 55% cotton, 45% acrylic),
color 99 cherry – 1 skein for both hat and shorts
Pehorka Detski Kapriz (50 g – 200 m [1.75 oz – 219 yds], 50% merino wool,
50% microfiber), colorway 29 pink lilac – 1 skein for both hat and shorts
Alize Cotton Gold (100 g – 330 m [3.5 oz – 361 yds], 55% cotton, 45% acrylic),
color 38 Coral – 1 skein for both shawl and pompoms
Madame Tricote Maya (50 g – 254 m [1.75 oz – 278 yds, 100% Polyester), color
346 dark lilac – 1 skein for the butterfly
Notions:
– 2 half-ball buttons diameter 12 mm [0.5 in] for eyes (may be substituted with 2
shank buttons, diameter 12 mm [0.5 in])
– black crochet thread for snout embellishments
– felting needle #25 (coarse, for instance, Gamma brand)
– 4 tailor pins to mark nose placement
– eyelashes (optional, sample in photo from Aliexpress)
– dental floss for cinching (may be substituted with any other sturdy thread).
– circular knitting needle 3 mm [US 2.5]
– crochet hook 3.75 mm [US F/5, Can 9] (I used CLOVER).
– crochet hooks 2 mm [US steel hook 4, UK 2½] and 1.5 mm [US steel hook 8, UK 4½]
– bodkin, approximately 12 cm [4.75 in] long for thread joints on limbs.
– polyester stuffing.
– piece of lace ribbon, length 55 cm [22 in]

Head, torso, legs, arms, and ears of the bunny are worked in spiral rounds through
both loops of the stitch, using a 3.75 mm [US F/5, Can 9] crochet hook.
Head and torso
Round 1: 6 sc into an Adjustable Magic Ring.
Round 2: (inc) 6 times – 12 sc
Round 3: (1 sc, inc) 6 times – 18 sc

Rounds 12 – 19: 66 sc
Round 20: (9 sc, dec) 6 times – 60 sc

Begin stuffing the head. Sample shown is stuffed firmly.

Round 28: (sc, dec) 6 times – 12 sc
Continue stuffing the head. Move stuffing to the sides for even roundness of head.
Make sure the head size of your bunny matches the measurements given on the last
page of pattern.
Round 29: 12 sc

Firmly stuff the torso, paying special attention to the neck area, which has to be
stuffed extra firmly to prevent the head from bobbing around.

Round 57: dec to end of round.
Break the yarn and hide the end.

your bunny match the measurements
given on the last page of the pattern.

Round 1: 6 sc into an Adjustable Magic Ring

Stuff the arm on the go, approximately every 4 rows.

Round 1: crochet a chain of 5, inc. into the second chain from the hook, 2 sc, 4 sc
into the last stitch of the chain. Continue into the unused loops on the other side of

Stuff the foot very densely. Continue stuffing approximately every 4 rows.

Ears, make 2
Round 1: 6 sc into an Adjustable Magic Ring

Rounds 10 – 15: 36 sc
Temporarily position the ears using tailor pins. Left ear: right edge at the level of
Round 20, left edge – at the level of Round 15. Break the yarn, leaving a long tail
for seaming. Position the right ear as follows: left edge at the level of Round 20,
right edge – at the level of Round 15.
Affixing the limbs
The string joint for the legs is very important, because it will affect how well your
bunny can be posed. I use dental floss since it is very sturdy and easy to use. To
attach the legs, thread a bodkin or long needle through the torso, for which the
needle needs to be really long – mine was 12 cm [4.75 in] long.
Affixing arms: insert the needle at the level of Round 2 of the first arm, secure, go
all the way through the torso at the level of Round 32, exit the needle and insert it
into the other arm. Now, again insert the needle into the torso and proceed into the
first arm. Repeat these steps three times. Cinch only very minimally.
Affixing the legs: insert the needle at the level of Round 4 of the leg (counted from
the top), secure the thread. Proceed to insert the needle into the torso, at the level of
Rounds 50–51. Go all the way through the torso with the needle, exit at the
opposite side. Insert the needle from above into the other leg at the level of Round
4 (counted from the top) and again go all the way through the torso.
Again, insert the needle into the first leg, gathering the crocheted fabric at the same
time, cinching the thread close. Repeat these steps three times.
Cinching the belly: insert the needle in the

middle of Rounds 41 – 42, enter the torso and
exit the needle the last round of the torso.
Repeat these steps 3 times.
Shaping the snout
Using 4 tailor pins, mark the location of the nose (Round 16, at a distance of 6 sc’s
between pins; Round 18, at a distance of 2 sc’s between pins).
Insert a long needle with threaded dental floss into the appropriate spot of the snout
(Rounds 26–27), to the right of the middle. Secure the floss, enter the snout,
exiting the needle to the left of the upper left pin. Grasp one sc and exit the needle
in the lower part of the snout, in the same spot, at the level of Rounds 26–27.
Cinch. Repeat the same 3 times.
Insert the needle into the appropriate spot of the snout (Rounds 26–27), to the left
of the middle. Secure the floss, enter the snout, exiting the needle to the right of the
upper right pin. Grasp one sc and exit the needle in the lower part of the snout, in
the same spot, at the level of Rounds 26–27. Cinch. Repeat the same 3 times.
Proceed to cinching the neck.
Insert the needle into the neck in the middle of the front, go all the way through,
exit the needle in the middle of the back. Grasp one sc, insert the needle in the
middle of the back and exit in the middle of the right half of the neck. Grasp one
sc, insert the needle in the middle of the right half of the neck and exit in the
middle of the left half of the neck.
With black embroidery thread, embroider a vertical bar on the snout. Insert the
needle between the bottom pins to mark the nose placement, pull the black crochet
thread downward along the snout, pull it taut and again insert the needle into the
appropriate spot of the snout.
Needle-felting the nose. Take up a felting needle and feltable wool. Felt the nose
on between the upper and lower pins on the snout.
If you prefer not to needle-felt, substitute by embroidering a nose using any thick
yarn in color pink.
Sew on the eyes to the right and to the left of the nose in the spots where you’ve
cinched earlier. If desired,
eyelashes can be glued on.
The bunny is
done!!!!
Tips and Hints for the clothing:
My most important tip would be to try on the garments as you work them up.
Individual gauge varies. If the garment seems too tight, add another increase row,
it it’s too big – work a few decreases more. I knit and crochet at a medium gauge.
Hat
Using circular knitting needle 3 mm [US 2.5] and Alize Lanagold Fine Classic
yarn in color violet, cast on 78 sts.
Rows 1 – 9 (odd-numbered only): selv st, k76, selv st
Rows 2 – 10 (even-numbered only): selv st, p76, selv st
Join Alize Cotton Gold in color cherry.
Rows 11, 13: selv st, (k1 in violet, k1 in cherry) 38 times, selv st
Rows 12, 14: selv st, (p1 in cherry, p1 in violet,) 38 times, selv st
Break working yarn in color violet, continue working with Alize Cotton Gold in
color cherry.
Row 15: selv st, k78, selv st

Bind off all sts.
Make a pompom using Alize Cotton Gold in color coral. Wind yarn around 4
fingers, break the yarn, lead the yarn tail between middle and pointer finger, pull it
out with a crochet hook. Cinch, then knot to secure. Cut the loops open at both
ends. Proceed to the most important step – trimming. Trim with sharp scissors until
pompom is evenly rounded and looks dense.
For hat embellishments, you will need 4 small pompoms. Sew them to the edge of
the hat.
The hat is finished!
Shorts
Using circular knitting needle 3 mm [US 2.5] and Alize Cotton Gold yarn in color
cherry:
Cast on 100 sts
Rows 2, 4: selv st, p98, selv st

Join new working yarn Pehorka Detski Kapriz in color pink lilac.
Rows 5, 7: selv st, (k1 in pink lilac, k1 in cherry) 49 times, selv st
Rows 6, 8: selv st, (p1 in cherry, p1 in pink lilac,) 49 times, selv st
Break working yarn in color in color cherry, continue working with Pehorka Detski
Kapriz in color pink lilac.
Rows 9, 11, 13: selv st, k98, selv st
Rows 10, 12, 14: selv st, p98, selv st
Row 15: selv st, k11, bind off 30 sts, k16, bind off 30 sts, k11, selv st
Continue working only over the middle 16 sts: work in stockinette stitch for 34
rows and bind off all sts. Over the 12 sts at the sides, work 2 rows of stockinette
stitch, then bind off all sts.
Sew lace ribbon under the bound-off sts at both sides (26 cm [10.25 in] ea).
Sew on 3 buttons in the back, crochet

two chains of 5 sts ea as button loops.
Using Alize Lanagold Fine Classic in

color violet, crochet a chain of 66 сm [26
in] as drawstring.
Thread the drawstring through the top of

the shorts and tie it.
The shorts are finished!
Lace shawl
Worked using crochet hook 2 mm

[US steel hook 4, UK 2½] and Alize Cotton Gold yarn in color coral.
Row 1: ch4, 2 dc into 1st ch, ch3
Row 2 and all other odd-numbered rows: sl-st in every st of the previous row,
starting with the 2nd st from the hook
Row 3: ch3 for height adjustment, 3 dc, ch3
Row 5: ch3 for height adjustment, (ch1, dc in 2nd st from hook) 2 times, ch3
