MODULE 5: LESSON 5: ARTISTS AND ARTISANS

LET’S GET STARTED

1.What art form can you most relate to and appreciate? It may be architecture, sculpture, painting,
music, literature, film, dance, performance/theater, and living traditions.

- There are so many arts that are given above and I do appreciate all of them but choosing one
will be really difficult and I would choose the music. There are so many types and genres of
music but it is not the thing that makes me relate to it but rather the lyrics itself. Music is not
just by singing or what, it is understanding what the writers feel about the lyrics. And some
music makes me realize so many things. The lyrics is inspired me and motivates me. I sing and
also write a song but I don’t usually let it out because I want to keep it for myself. Because
those songs are my diary. It includes all the things that happened in my life. all the things that
makes me feel happy, sad, angry, overwhelmed etc.

2.Name an artist whose works you really like.

- I like all the Taylor swifts’ songs and albums because it is based on what happened to her in real life.
all of the things that her ex-boyfriends have done to her and just like me her songs are also her diary
and n I don’t just like it, I love it.

3.Is there a particular work of art created by him or her that you relate to and appreciate? What is it
and why?

- Taylor swift is a singer, and the song that really is related to me was “look what you made me
do”. The first verse was for all of the people who judge me and told me that I am unworthy
because I am not raised properly by my parents but no its not true my parents are the best.
And the pre-chorus was really the best verse, when she sings the line “I got smarter and
harder”, the things is that because of all the things that happened in my life I learned, I
learned how to be smarter and to be harder in a way that I wont let my emotions be more
p[powerful than my thinking. I would always choose be respectful but I won’t let anyone
degrade me.

4.With your classmate, discuss and compare the items you listed.

- While I was comparing the things, we have listed I find it funny how our differences are. She
loves painting while I love music. And I am more on based on reality but hers was a bit of
more generalize, I mean I realize people really doesn’t have any similarity in terms of attitude.

5.Based on what you wrote, make an assumption about what the painting means.

- I wrote all abut music but based from my own perspective painting is the art of expressing
someone’s emotions. The art of understanding someone’s feelings. It is expressed not by
words but rather by a drawing and colors that symbolizes something from the painter itself.

LET’S WORK on This

1.What do you think is the role of the artist in the twenty-first century society?

- Society artists were painting very positive portraits of riches, beauty, and good taste by the
turn of the twentieth century. The artist's job was to make the subject of each painting more
appealing, thinner, paler, and beautiful.

2.How relevant still are the awards National Artists and GAMABA, not only to the art world, but also
to the Filipino society as a whole?

- What is GAMABA's significance? GAMABA is for Gawad ng Manlilikha ng Bayan, and the
award's sole goal is to reward and celebrate traditional folk artists while also preserving their
works, talents, and crafts. A Grand Collar is presented to National Artists as a mark of their
position. The honorees, who have been compared to the US National Medal of Arts and
Japan's Order of Culture, exemplify the highest principles of humanities and aesthetics, as
well as the ideal expression of Filipinos, as evidenced by their remarkable works and
achievements.

3.Analyze and critique state-sponsored recognition for artists and cultural worker. What do you think
Are some of the considerations that must be addressed with regard to these?

- To become a Manlilikha ng Bayan, an individual or group must: Have a mastery of traditional,

folk-art tools and materials, and be a maker of works of extraordinary technical quality; have
consistently produced works of superior quality over a significant period of time; have
engaged in a traditional craft.
