I. OVERVIEW OF THE PROGRAMME

2. Students: 28-30 students
3. Duration: 18 weeks = 36 periods (45 minutes / a period)
4. Learning outcomes: At the end of the course, students will be able to:

1. Attendance and Participation


Teachers check Ss’ attendance in all lessons; check Ss’ homework; evaluate Ss’ participation and
contribution to the lessons. This is a continuous assessment, which is supposed to be done in every
lesson.
2. CNN TEAM CHALLENGE GUIDELINE
1. Aim:
As an activity that aims to familiarize 10th- grade students with the new high school environment,
the challenge also creates the chance for them to activate their English competence, develop
teamwork and problem-solving skills, along with the ability to communicate effectively with
others.
2. Instructions:
2.1. Format:
u Duration: 05 weeks (week 01 – week 06)
u Format: A video of 4-5 minutes long
u The class is divided into groups of 4 - 5 students
2.2. Content:
u 4-5 things you love about CNN (each member shares 1 experience about first days at
your new school)
u 10+ in us (interview what other CNNers think about 10+ 2021)
u Teachers at first sight (interview your favorite teachers about their impression on K53
students)
2.3. Procedure
u Step 1: Group up - assign tasks - make timeline (week 01)
u Step 2: Complete assigned tasks
u Step 3: Submit the video and report (week 06)
u Step 4: Showcase the video in the class (Week 07)
2.4 Assessing criteria:
u Content: 5 points (group’s on-track presentation and coordination)
u English competence (individuals’ fluency, accuracy, pronunciation, communicativeness
and participation): 3 points
u Video presentation (group’s video quality ): 2 points
3. Listening portfolio guideline
I. INTRODUCTION
ü Duration: 7 weeks (week 6 – week 12)
ü Format: a written report
II. PROCEDURE
1. Phase 1: (25%)
Step 1: Select an available and appropriate listening source for each report.
Step 2: Explore listening sources (listen, take notes, and organise notes accordingly).
Step 3: Make a completed transcript and translation (optional)
2. Phase 2: (35%)
Step 4: Write a report, using related information to complete a “question template”
checklist as guided.
Step 5: Complete and submit the report

3. Listening test (x3) (40%)
Students have 1 in-class listening test in 30 minutes. The listening test is designed to assess students’
listening comprehension skill, including how well students:
o Understand main ideas and specific factual information
o Understand the organization of information and relationships between ideas
o Recognize the opinions, attitudes and purpose of a speaker
III. Course policies
Attendance: Attendance is mandatory. For the third and each subsequent unexcused absence, the final
average will be lowered by 1 point.
Excused absences: Students must inform teachers in advance about their absences with reasonable
excuses.
Submission of Assignments: Late submission of assignment or poor contribution to group work can
affect students’ grade.
