Abstract

The low ability of English for young learners, especially in mastery of vocabulary words. Using
cartoons can help them easily mastery vocabulary. The purpose of the research help students in
mastery english vocabulary through cartoon movie. In addition, this interesting strategy does not
make them bored, but instead makes them happy and enjoy to understand English learning. The
target of this research is shown to young learners. Researcher will take 4 students from
elementary school in pekalongan. For data collection, this study used observation, interviews and
documentation because this study deals with cartoon films as learning in vocabulary mastery.

B. Formulation of the Problem / rumusan masalah

This study focuses on " how to improve vocabulary mastery to young learners through cartoon
movies"

By using learning strategies through cartoons, young students can easily memorize and
remember vocabulary. In addition, it can create researchers where young learners are expected to
experience an increase in their vocabulary mastery skills.

C. Operational definition

To prevent incidents regarding the meanings of this research, explain some explanations about
the research, including:

Vocabulary Mastery: Vocabulary mastery is the activity of mastering or the ability to understand
and use words contained in a language, both spoken and written. Receptive language activities
are listening and reading.

Young learners: Young learners is based on the principle that primary teachers of english have a
muche wider responsibility than the simple teaching of the language system. The english class is
not only a place where children learn english; it also form part of their whole education
(philip,1993)

beginning of his invention, animated films were made from sheets of drawing paper which were
then "rotated" so that a moving image effect appeared.

D. Significances of the Research


1. Theoritical Significance : This study will contribute to the theories belongs to
Vygotsky (1962) related to engaging young learners in English learning by using cartoon
movie and support to the theories related to English learning.
2. Empirical Significance: This study provides empirical insights related to Engaging
young learners in learning English through cartoon movie.
3. Practical Significance : This study provides information about how to engage young
learners in the English learning process.

E. Literature review (peneliti sebelumnya)


Based on research results, this study greatly affects students' ability to learn English. In addition,
by applying it two cycles can help them with their easy steps in understanding the study. Plus,
the study of mastery of cartoons is very interesting and fun, so students don't get bored easily.
Finally, they can master word for word with full understanding (Devi, 2012)

F. Research design
G. Setting and participant
This study will report on the use of cartoons to involve young learners in learning English about
vocabulary mastery located in Pekalongan, Central Java. Four young students aged 8-12 years
will voluntarily participate in this study. This research will be conducted for two weeks in
Pabean village. The reason for their selection is due to three considerations: 1). Their English
skills are still lacking 2). The use of cartoons is very interesting 3). Most at their age really like
cartoons

Instructional procedure:
In the first week, the researcher will explain about English vocabulary and how to master
vocabulary easily. Then the researcher will ask how much vocabulary the young learners master.
To check their knowledge of vocabulary, the researcher will ask the young learners to write in
their respective books.
In the second week, after the researchers know the ability of young learners to master
vocabulary, the researchers will show a cartoon movie and ask them to watch and record the
words they hear from the video.
H. Data Collection
Several equipment are needed to obtain data in the study, including observation, interviews,
documentation, which are related to qualitative data. Observations were made to check and find
out the student's capacity during the learning process. Meanwhile, Interviews here are free,
meaning that researchers can ask questions about anything while still paying attention to the data
that will be collected (Nining Puspitasari, 2019) 4.
I. Data analysis
The theory of data analysis (ibnu khaldun, 2019) will be used by researchers to analyze in the
form of pre-test and post-test. The use of the pre-test aims to check how much students are able
to master and master vocabulary. By holding a pre-test the teacher will know their vocabulary
skills and will take the next step, namely the post-test. The post-test will show students'
improvement in vocabulary mastery after practicing the methods that have been taught.
With this method, it is hoped that there will be progress in students' ability to master vocabulary.
As for the interview, the teacher gave their questions freely using English, so that they could
stimulate some words or vocabulary they heard. In order to find results that are consistent with
this research, Vygotsky's (1962) theory of learning English for young learners is the limitation
for this study. Therefore, this research is expected to find useful results.
