KING STREET CHURCH ELDERS

Heterogenize Assignment

The Elders of King Street Church rejoice in the heavenly future of all God’s people
as described in Revelation 7:9 “Before me was a great multitude that no one could
count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne
and in front of the Lamb.” Since the eternal destiny of the church is multi-ethnic,
what is God’s will for us until then? Is a multi-ethnic local church a biblical mandate?
Our study of several key Scriptures led us to some observations.

Since:
• God especially blessed evangelism that crossed ethnic boundaries (Acts 11:19-
21)
• Multiple ethnic groups coming to faith in Christ was evidence of God’s grace
(Acts 11:23)
• The multi-ethnic church was the first to be identified as Christian (Acts 11:26)
• The cross bridges all perceived boundaries between all believers (Eph 2:11-22)
• All barriers between all believers are removed by the blood of Christ (Eph 2:13-
16)
• Peace with God through the cross of Christ is reflected by peace between all
believers (Eph 2:14-17)
• Believers are able to view one another as immediate family through the cross
(Eph 2:19)
• There is only one foundation and chief cornerstone for the entire church (Eph
2:20)
• God ordained his church to shed light on the mystery of Jew and Gentile oneness
in Christ (Eph 3:10)
• The uniting of Jew and Gentile in Christ is a demonstration of God’s multi-colored
wisdom (Eph 3:10)
• God’s multi-faceted wisdom is made known by proclaiming the gospel to
everyone (Eph. 3:8-10)
• The expression of oneness among God’s people demonstrates the unity of the
godhead (John 17:21)
• The inseparable bond between the Father and Son is the standard for our
oneness (John 17:20-26)
• A lack of unity signals that we have not embraced the full revelation of who God
is (John 17:11, 22)
• We have received the glory of knowing and believing Christ, which is the basis
for unity (John 17:22)
• Without the unity of believers the church cannot adequately reflect Christ’s
identity (John 17:23)
• Our like-mindedness convinces the world of Jesus’ identity and the Father’s love
(John 17:23)

Therefore, we will:
1. Make the work of Christ on the cross the determination of our fellowship with
other believers.
2. Provide a theological foundation to encourage our people to reach out to other
ethnic groups.
3. Enlist qualified advisors to help us identify three significant barriers that
discourage diverse peoples from entering into partnership and leadership, and
actively address those barriers.
4. Make known to our community that we welcome diversity and desire to be a
multi-ethnic church.
5. Establish a meaningful partnership with a local church that is ethnically diverse
from us.
6. Take responsibility for the effort to bring together all area churches for ministry
and celebration.
7. Stand against disunity and separateness in its many forms—legalism, bigotry,
prejudice, cultural elitism self-righteousness, injustice—through public
instruction, private counsel, personal practice.
8. Continue to encourage the hiring of an ethnically diverse person to a leadership
staff position.
9. Support the new English language ministry under the leadership of our Local
Outreach Commission.
10.Support Worship Arts use of music and the arts to build bridges within the body
of Christ.
