A study of lean construction and visual management tools through


cluster analysis

3.2.1. Sample size


The structured questionnaire survey has been shared with 725
people associated directly and indirectly with the Indian construc-
tion industry. The population selected for the study is the mix of
professionals working with contractors, developers, PMC’s, inde-
pendent consultants, government bodies, and academic profession-
als working in the same field. A total of 153 complete and valid
forms were received with a response rate of 21%.

4. Data analysis and results

The data from the collected questionnaire were extracted and


analyzed with the help of Microsoft Excel. Comparing the value
increasing factors and the listed tools from the received data, the
following result is drawn.

4.1. Reliability analysis

RII is one of the best tools to analysed and prioritise the set of
attributes on the basis of their weighted average values. RII is very
much useful in defining the attributes and giving them the value on
the basis of the Likert scale values given by the respondents. RII
have been used in project management and construction manage-
ment by a number of researcher and it is highly reliable to predict
the most important attributes from a list of attributes [47–53].

4.2.1. The most significant lean tool/techniques


The most significant lean tool and techniques based on the RII
value were Big rooms, 5S, and LPS having a RII value of 92%, 91%,
and 90% respectively.

4.2.2. The significant lean tool and techniques

were BIM, Display boards, and Augmented Construction Field Visu-
alization having a RII value of 88%, 86%, and 85% respectively.

4.2.3. The least significant lean tool and techniques


The significant lean tool and techniques based on the RII value
were Poka-Yoke / Mistake Proofing, Color Coding, Kanban cards,

85%, 84%, 83%, 75%, 73%, and 72%respectively.
