I. Context and Rationale

Reading is considered as one of the most important language skills for the
success in academe and professional development. But there are several factors
that give impact to the students of EFL in reading comprehension in Thailand nor
teachers and students. In a report it was revealed that Thai English teachers utilized
conventional method as a strategy to teach reading. For instance, teacher will ask
the students to read aloud line by line, phrase by phrase, then will be translate the
text and to finish by answering the questions asked by the teacher (Hayikaleng,
2016).

In Thailand, students are only expose in English language in the classroom


setting and unfortunately most of English subjects are taught in Thai language.
Regarding this, as a result revealed that students’ use of English is not satisfactory.
Hence, it was found out that Thai students are weak in English reading
comprehension (Nair, 2016).

The problem has been felt in the Philippines wherein the Cebu Technology
University. It has been found out on their empirical studies revealing that students
with different learning styles achieve better academic scores when the teaching
strategies address their learning preferences. In addition, in the study follows that
teachers need to provide more activities and learning techniques through
differentiated instruction for the learners to enhance their reading comprehension
skills no matter what the intelligence they have. Moreover, differentiated instruction is
an essential tool in basic reading comprehension it creates a decisive and
considerable benefit to struggling learners (Suson, 2020).

In Region XI, the same issue has been felt as well. Most of the results of the
studies seem to be valid and confirmed that students enriched their reading
comprehension through online reading strategies. Also, it has been found out that
integrating an Information and Communication Technologies is an essential tool in
facilitating learning and teaching. In this way, these reading strategies will be
reinforced.
