Textbook: Limba Moderna 1-Engleza, Clasa a VII-a A, Editura Art Klett, 2019

Aims:

 To give students practice in the use of should/ought to and had better;


 To provide opportunities for the practice of should, ought to and had better (in
speaking, reading, writing);
 To create the appropriate atmosphere for lowering anxiety;

Objectives: By the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:

 Use should/ought to and had better appropriately;


 Solve activities related to the grammar topic(should/ought to or had better);
 Construct sentences of their own, using should/ought to or had better;

TEACHING TECHNIQUES
- dialogue, explanation, conversation, brainstorming, elicitation
SKILLS: reading, writing, speaking, listening
INTERACTION: T – S; S-T; S – S, group work
MATERIALS: board, flashcards, pens, markers, flip chart, computer
ANTICIPATED PROBLEMS:
- some students might need further help and extra indications in solving the tasks and they may
also need some of these indications to be given in Romanian;
-some students might feel nervous and reluctant to participate in the activity, so they may need
more encouragement.
Warm Up
Aim:
-to create a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere
Procedure: T. greets students and begins the new lesson. T. starts with some introductory
conversation, checks the homework.
Timing: 5’ min

Activity 1: Lead-in
Aim:
Procedure :Teacher introduces to the students the objectives of the new lesson. T asks students
to check a worksheet about some issues they might face on the internet. After that, they express
their opinion loudly.
-to activate students’ interest on the lesson

Timing: 5 min.

Activity 2: Semi controlled grammar teaching( inductive teaching strategy)


Aim:
-to focus students attention on the lesson
Procedure
After a short speaking activity, teacher elicits the grammar forms from the students. T writes on
the board the forms of should/ought to and had better and the rules of usage.
Teacher also explains to the students the difference between should/ought to and had better.
Timing:10 min
Interaction: individual work, group work, T- Ss

Activity 3: Practice
Aim: to see if students understood how to use the correct form of the modal verbs taught.
-to develop S’ reading skills & to monitor understanding of the text/ sentences
- to consolidate information
-to learn new words
Procedure:
Displayed on the bord and on their worksheets, Ss will find a letter with grammar mistakes. They
are asked to correct them and then T elicits the answer.
Timing:5’ min
Interaction: T-S, group work
Activity 4: Practice
Aim: Presenting the grammar point in different structures, either controlled or free, helps
students internalize the grammar issue more thoroughly.
Procedure:
Ss receive a worksheet where they have some problems that they have to match them with the
best solution. After that, they will be given three problems and they will say what advice would
they give if asked.
Timing: 10 min
Interaction: T-S, S-T, individual work

Activity 5: Further practice(if time left)


Aim: to provide further practice;
Procedure:
The teacher the homework and explains the task;
The students take notes;

Ss have to do exercise 4 page 13 as compulsory homework, using as an exemple the previous


exercise. They also receive a worksheet as an optional homework.
