TENSES

Tenses are a category of grammar (grammar) that emphasizes the use of verbs that are
associated with the time of use.

The Function :
- State an event clearly
- Knowing when an event happens
- Facilitate communication between people
- Supporting formal writing

I. PRESENT

a. Simple Present
Used to show facts, habits, and general conditions that occur at this time.

Example :
(+) I drink water everyday
(-) I do not drink water everyday
(?) do I drink water everyday?
b. Present Continous
Used to talk about an on going action. The most important of these tenses is
the time duration for the verb.

Example :
(+) He is reading a book at this time
(-) He is reading a book at this time
(?) Is he reading a book at this time

c. Present Perfect
Used to show an action or event has been completed and emphasizes the
result.

Example :
(+) I have finished my homework
(-) I have not finished my homework
(?) Have I finished my homework?

d. Present Perfect Continous

Used to denote an action that began in the past and continues to the present.
 Example :
(+) She has been speaking for the last 2 hours
(-) She has not been speaking for the last 2 hours
(?) Has she been speaking for the last 2 hours?
