INTRODUCTION
Enpower33 C Series UPS is a high technology product manufactured to be used
in industrial fields, hospitals, schools, banks, business centers (offices), computer
and communication systems and in any other places where the hi-tech devices are
used. Besides being an on-line system it also provides a by-pass system, contains
all the protection systems and able to feed all kinds of loads.
As it is constructed with Double Conversion (Online) methodology, the system
feeds the loads with stable voltage (frequency and amplitude). In the case of mains
blackout or back to the normal mains, there is no transfer time in question in an on-
line structure.
With a view to provide stable operation of the load, responsive microprocessor
control mechanism is implemented in UPS design thus ensuring quality output,
especially needed for the devices sensitive to minor voltage changes.
The static by-pass unit of the UPS continuously keeps the mains as a stand-by
supply. In an overload case, UPS transfers the load to the mains to protect itself
from damage. As soon as the load conditions returns to the normal, with static by-
pass system the UPS starts to provide pre-defined, stable frequency and voltage.
In an UPS fault case, the static by-pass unit behaves the same as it was
mentioned above and protects the load from energy interruption.
During the mains failure, UPS feeds the load from the batteries. During that
autonomy time, depending on the capacity and number of batteries, UPS is run by
the batteries. In that time, if mains come back again, UPS passes to Normal Mode
and continues to feed the load. Meanwhile charging of the batteries begins.
While the UPS is connected to a PC system by RS232, with compatible software
program all the functions of UPS can be monitored. By means of a Modem,
connecting to a remote device (UPS), the device related functions and problems
could be acquired in PC. Moreover, it is possible to make suitable changes in the
parameters of UPS from the connected PC.
The system in Enpower33 C Series UPS is shown as a block diagram below in
Figure-1.

 Stopping the UPS through a computer. (Shutdown)
 During Stop Mode, bypass voltage or frequency is out of limit
 During Stop Mode, there is a static bypass switch failure
 During Stop Mode, shutdown due to overheat or overload
 In a parallel system, while the other units are in Normal Mode, the UPS is
stopped
SIREN SYSTEM
UPS has an internal siren system that expresses failures, warnings and messages
to user. Siren system becomes active in cases stated below.

 During the turn on procedure of UPS, steadily ( for a short moment)

 When pressed any buttons on keypad on the front panel, steadily ( for a
short moment)
 During Battery Operation, periodically
 In case of overload, periodically
 In case of overheat, periodically
 In all failures, periodically

When the reason that makes the siren system active disappears, the system
becomes inactive automatically. For instance when there is overload, the siren
begins to sound. And when the overloading finishes, the siren system stops.

In case of any failures, when the UPS is stopped by pressing “EXT” button, the siren
system becomes inactive.

Please push (press and leave) “EXT” button to make the siren system silent
temporarily without stopping the UPS.

MANUEL BYPASS OPERATIONS

Activating Manual Bypass

For a safer manual bypass operation without dropping the load,

perform the following steps.

 Press “EXT” button for a while. UPS passes to Stop Mode. The load is
transferred to static bypass line without interrupting.
 Switch the output circuit breaker into ‘MBYP’ position.
 With the siren sound, ‘Maintenance Switch On’ warning is seen in both Alarm
Information Window and Warnings Main Menu. ‘Service’ message is seen in
Output Menu of UPS Status Main Menu. The mimic diagram is seen as
showed in figure below.

Figure-23 The mimic diagram of manual bypass operation

 Turn off the battery and the input circuit breakers.

 UPS will be turned off (completely shutdown) after a while.

After switching the output circuit breaker into ‘MBYP’ position, the load is
fed without interrupting as long as the mains voltage exists.
During manual bypass operation, there are still dangerous voltage at the
terminals of input, battery and output terminals. Do not take out the
protective cover of terminals. This operation should only be made by
authorized personnel.

Deactivating Manual Bypass

During manual bypass operation and the UPS is OFF, do not switch the
output circuit breaker into ‘UPS’ or ‘OFF’ position. Otherwise your load will
be dropped. For a safer transfer, execute the following steps stated below.

 Turn on the input circuit breaker.

 The UPS passes to Stop Mode.
 Switch the output circuit breaker into ‘UPS’ position.
 Start the UPS.
 After the UPS passes to Normal Mode, turn on the battery circuit breaker.
IN CASE MAINS FAIL
In case mains fail, the battery bank begins to feed the load without interrupting. At
that moment, the UPS;

 Passes to Running by Battery Mode (Battery Operation). The mimic diagram

shows Running by Battery Mode. (Figure-20)
 “Mains Out Of Limit” message is seen on Alarm Information Window and
“Mains Failure” message is seen on Warnings Main Menu.
 DISPLAYS/ Battery Menu is seen in Data Monitoring Window.
 The periodic siren begins to sound.
 The LED bar lights in green winkly. This period of winkling depends on the
voltage level of the batteries. LED winkling period gets more frequent
proportional with discharging the batteries.

After passing to Running by Battery Mode, the battery voltage begins to drop
depending on the load and the capacity of the batteries. The battery voltage is
compared with the reference values defined in SET VALUES/Battery Menu.
According the result of this comparison, the periodic siren system changes as
shown in table below.

32/62
ENPOWER33 C SERIES USER MANUAL rev1.0

During Running by Battery Mode, if the mains come back, the UPS passes to
Normal Mode uninterruptingly.

In case the batteries deplete completely, ‘battery depleted’ warning is given and four
minutes later both the rectifier and inverter stages are shut. Meanwhile no energy is
transferred to the load. After depleting, if mains come back, the UPS is restarted
and passes to Normal Mode.

If you want the UPS to be started automatically when the mains come
back after shutting entirely, do not turn off the any circuit breakers.
Otherwise you will have to start it manually.

EMERGENCY POWER OFF (EPO)

The UPS can be turned off (completely shutdown) in emergency cases like fire,
flood etc. When Emergency Power Off (EPO) is used, rectifier and inverter stages
are shut and static bypass unit is stopped and the UPS passes to System Off Mode.
Moreover “Emergency Off” is seen in Warnings Main Menu. Periodic siren system
becomes active.
After shutting down the unit by using EPO, there is still dangerous voltage
at the input and battery terminals. Do not take out the protective cover of
terminals. This operation should only be made by authorized personnel.

EPO operation executed by means of a switch connected to 8 and 9. pins of

CUSTOM CONTACTS (DSUB-9F) female socket on the communication unit. While
the UPS is working, if external EPO switch is turned OFF, EPO is executed. To
make EPO option active, please select ‘on’ under TEST SETTINGS/ Hardware/
Emergency Power Off menu.

After executing EPO, UPS can not be started. To do this, please turn off
all the circuit breakers of the UPS and turn them on again.

If EPO option not preferred, select “off” under TEST SETTINGS/ Hardware/
Emergency Power Off menu.
REMOTE START/STOP PROCEDURE (REMOTE BYPASS)
The UPS can be remotely stopped and started again by means of an external
switch. Tips of the external swich must be connected 1 and 2. pins of CUSTOM
CONTACTS (DSUB-9F) female socket on the communication unit. While the UPS is
working, if external switch is turned OFF, it passes to Stop Mode. Both the rectifier
and inverter stages are shut. Load is fed by bypass line. When the switch is turned
ON, the UPS is restarted and after a while it passes to Normal Mode.

33/62
ENPOWER33 C SERIES USER MANUAL rev1.0

To make the remote start/stop procedure option active, please select “on” in TEST
SETTINGS/ Hardware/ UPS Shutdown.
RUNNING BY GENERATOR
When the UPS is fed by generator instead of mains, battery charge feature of UPS
can be made passive to operate the generator more productive. To do this, a
contact data from generator must be given to the UPS. The tips of that contact must
be connected 3 and 4.pins of CUSTOM CONTACTS (DSUB-9F) female socket on
the communication unit. When the generator begins to run, the UPS passes to
Normal Mode but the batteries are not charged. Thus the generator is not
overloaded. Furthermore, while passing from running by battery to Normal Mode,
the genarator is loaded softly. The generator does not fall down because of loading.
When the mains is back and running by generator stops, the batteries will be
charged again. To make that option active, please select “on” in TEST SETTINGS/
Hardware/ Generator Active.
BATTERY TEST
The batteries can be tested in two different ways. Manual ve Periodical Test. Battery
test can only be executed while the UPS in Normal Mode.
Manual Test
In this way, end users test the batteries manually whenever they want. Test
procedure is explained in steps below.

 Access the ‘CUSTOM SETTINGS/Battery/Test Time’ menu. Determine that

time as minute. Factory default value is 1 minute.
 Access the ‘DISPLAYS/Battery’ menu. By using ‘Down Arrow’ button, enter
Test Monitoring page.

the previous test. Here is the information that can be observed in that page.

34/62
ENPOWER33 C SERIES USER MANUAL rev1.0

‘Test Time’ : It shows the date and time of the previous test. If any tests have not
been made so far, this information is not seen.

‘Test Result’ : It shows the result of the previous test.

If any tests have not been made so far, “no test” warning is seen.
If made and a problem about the batteries had been diagnosed, “failure” is seen.
If made and there had been no problem, “ok” is seen.
If test procedure had been cancelled, “cancel” warning is seen.

 Press ‘ENTER’ button. The UPS passes to running by battery mode and it
stays at this mode during the determined test period. Meanwhile running by
battery mode figure is seen on the mimic diagram.

Figure-25 Appearance of test monitoring menu during battery test

In this page, during the battery test, there exists information belongs to the present
test. Here is the information that can be observed in that page:

‘Test Time’ : It shows the time and date when the test has started.

‘Test Result’ : While on progress, since the result is not certain, ‘xxx’ is seen.

‘Test Monitoring’ : The battery test voltage and the remaining test time are seen
here. During the battery test, if the battery voltage decreases under the reference
battery test voltage, it is understood that there is a problem in batteries. When that
time finishes and battery test stops, the UPS passes to Normal Mode again.

During the battery test, if ‘ENTER’ button is pressed, test is cancelled and the UPS
passes to Normal Mode again.

35/62
ENPOWER33 C SERIES USER MANUAL rev1.0

During the battery test, if any problems are determined, the UPS stops the test and
passes to Normal Mode. Battery failure is notified by means of periodic siren.
“failure” message is seen on the “Test Result” part of Test Monitoring page.

36/62
ENPOWER33 C SERIES USER MANUAL rev1.0

Periodical Test
In this way, batteries can be tested automatically at determined period intervals. In
CUSTOM SETTINGS/Battery/Test Period menu, test period can be determined as
time of days. Factory default value for test period is 7 days. If you do not want to
use the periodical test, please select the “off” under CUSTOM
SETTINGS/Battery/Test Period menu. Test procedure is the same as in the manual
test.
OVERLOAD
If there is an overload case at the output of the UPS, the operation of the UPS
changes as explained below.

 ‘Overload’ is seen in both Alarm Information Window and Warnings Main

Menu.
 Periodic siren system becomes active. It buzzes three times in every 5
seconds.
 Overload counter begins to run. This counter is situated on the third page of
DISPLAYS/Output menu. Counting rate depends on the amount of load.

After the moment of overload, the load percentage is continuously compared to

reference values determined in SET VALUES/Output menu. According to the result
of that comparison, loading time changes as stated in table below.

Load percentage Overload Duration

Higher than “Nominal Current” Steadily

As ‘%110 Load Time’
Higher than “%110 Load Current”
(Factory default value is 1 hour)
As ‘%130 Load Time’
Higher than “%130 Load Current”
(Factory default value is 10 minutes)
As ‘%150 Load Time’
Higher than “%150 Load Current”
(Factory default value is 1 minute)

Table-7 Loading duration according to the overload duration

If the overload case is still going on at the end of the overload time, the UPS
transfers the load to the static bypass line. Both the rectifier and inverter stages are
shut. ‘Overload Shutdown’ warning is seen in both Alarm Information Window and
Warnings Main Menu. It’s waited for approximately 4 minutes to allow the UPS to
get cool.

37/62
ENPOWER33 C SERIES USER MANUAL rev1.0

If the load percentage drops under nominal load value at the end of that time, the
UPS restarts and passes to Normal Mode. If overload is going on, the UPS does not
restart.

If overload case stops before overload time expires, periodic siren system becomes
silent. The value of overload counter begins to decrease. Overload warning
disappears in the Alarm Information Window.

It is recommended not to run the UPS at overload for the maximum

lifespan of the UPS. In case of overload, decrease your load!

ECO-MOD OPERATION
In eco-mode, the load is fed by bypass source instead of inverter voltage. In this
mode, both the rectifier and inverter stages run different from Stop Mode. Bypass
voltage, its frequency and waveform are continuously observed. Inverter voltage is
kept ready by synchronizing with bypass voltage. When the bypass voltage and/or
frequency is beyond the defined limits or the waveform is corrupted, the load is
automatically transferrred to the inverter line. When the bypass source comes back
into the range of defined limits, the load is automatically transferrred to the static
bypass line.

In this mode, the batteries are continuously kept charged. When the mains fail, the
rectifier stage is shut and the batteries begin to feed the inverter. The batteries pass
to discharging state. When the mains come back, the rectifier stage is operated
again and the batteries begin to be charged. The LED bar lights in red winkly.
Activating Eco-Mod
 Stop the UPS and verify that it is in Stop Mode.
 Select the ‘eco-mod’ under TEST SETTINGS/General/Operating Mode
menu.
 Press EXT button on the front panel for a while.

PARALLEL OPERATION
Definition and Features

ENPOWER33 C SERIES UPS’ with parallel option can be connected together

parallel to feed a load system. Parallel configuration is a system, which ensures
more sensitive and reliable operation of the UPS to continue feeding the load during
electrical blackout. Because, in a parallel configuration even if one unit of the UPSs
goes out of order, the other units still operate and thus ensure a continuous feeding
of the load. At that moment it is not necessary to feed the load by bypass. Also if
one of the units is taken out of circuit for service and maintenance, the other units
are still able to feed the load alone. In this situation it is not required to transfer the
load to bypass. This is why parallel configuration plays a key role for more secured
operation.

The failure probability in a parallel system is comparatively less than that of the
single unit because of the under capacity operation. Thus it provides more reliable
operation.

In case all the units go out of order, the system switches the load to bypass
automatically and when they return to normal condition they start operating
automatically in parallel mode. In a parallel configuration, the units feed the total
load together and share it equally.

That’s to say, they equally distribute the necessary load current. There can also be a
unit remains as stand-by. The stand-by unit is a passive one that begins to feed the
load in case of failure one of the active units or in case of an increase in the total
load. When the failured active unit is OK or the load is decreased, the stand-by unit
is taken out of circuit automatically. This system is generally named as (N+1). N,
the active units feeding the load together and +1, the unit remains stand-by.
39/62
ENPOWER33 C SERIES USER MANUAL rev1.0

In C SERIES, a new control technology is used for paralleling that increases the
reliability and flexibility.
Installation

The electrical connections must be done as stated in “INSTALLATION” section.

Additionally please pay attention the following points.

 Locate the units closer to each other as much as possible.

 Connect the input/output cables of the units to the mains/load panels
separately and make a common output bus for on that panel. Also take
special care of the phase sequence while doing these connections.

While connecting the output phase cables to the common output bus
on the panel, pay attention to phase sequences.

 A load disconnector should be used between the common output bus and
the load system on the load distribution panel.
 Use a separate battery cubicle for each unit. Do not use a common battery
cubicle.
 Use a separate earth cable for each unit.
 The cooling system of the UPS room must be designed according to the total
power of the parallel configuration.

Finally, connect the parallel cables provided with the UPS to the parallel DSUB-9M
port of the communication unit of the UPS and tighten the screws.

Settings

Please carry out the following steps for each unit in the same way.

 Turn on the UPS as explained in “Turning On The UPS” section.

unit leave it as “off”.

Commissioning

Please execute the following steps for each unit to start the parallel operation.

 Start the UPS by pressing EXT button.

 Wait for the rectifier and inverter stages to operate.
 After the UPS passes to Normal Mode, turn on the battery circuit breaker.

After all the units start, carry out the following points.

 Ensure that the load disconnector is OFF.

 Turn on the output circuit breaker to the “UPS” position to “UPS” of one of
the units. In this case, the output voltage of the first unit will be
seen/measured at the output terminals of the other units.
 In another unit, measure the voltage difference between the top and down
probes of the output circuit breaker with the help of a digital multi-meter. If
this value is lower than 10 V AC, turn on the output circuit breaker to the
UPS position of that unit.
 Do the same for the rest of the units.
 After turning on all the output circuit breakers, turn on the load disconnector.
 At this point, the parallel system is ready for operation.

SNMP (SIMPLE NETWORK MANAGEMENT PROTOCOL)

Definition and Features

In modern era, a widely used protocol SNMP is used in order to monitor and control
more than one UPS (at the same time) connected to a large-scale network
environment, from a center. To that purpose, each of the UPS connected to the
network should be accompanied by an SNMP adapter and then be connected to the
network. SNMP adapter ensures control of a UPS installed in a different area just as
easy as monitoring a UPS that is connected to LAN (Local Area Network). The
UPSs installed through SNMP adapter are given one IP address each and in this
way they are connected to the center. As a result, all the information of the UPSs
regarding their operational status can be known from the center. The system
provides:

 Monitoring of UPS operational status on computer screen.

 Easier modification of certain parameters of the devices from computer
screen.
 While the device is running by batteries, the battery information is
continuously obtained and thus it provides safety operation.
 Easy monitoring of the input, output and battery status information of the
device from the computer screen.
 The failure conditions of the device can be learnt from any computer
connected to the network and thus provide an opportunity to take care on
time.
 More than one UPS connected in a network environment can be monitored
just from one computer of the network.

detailed analysis of the problems. All these warnings, rules and regulations are only
to protect the user against any sort of fatalities.

This system is designed under the supervision of experienced and professional

personnel ensuring the laws regarding security, management and service to yield a
safe, reliable and well running device. Necessary measures are taken at all the
connection points, which might be dangerous to life. Following the technical data
provided in the design can ensure the longer life of the device.

When the case of the UPS is kept open, there remains a probability to touch the
high voltage carrying points accidentally. Consequently, in this condition, the
personnel dealing with it should be concerned and should not touch the points with
bare-hand. So, when the UPS runs, the enclosures should be kept closed.

PERIODICAL SERVICE
C SERIES UPS is designed in such a way that a little maintenance is necessary. In
order to guarantee healthy condition of UPS system for a long time the following
cares should be taken.

 At first the UPS should be shutdown and then all the voltage connections (at
input and output) should be disconnected from the UPS by turning off the
circuit breakers.
 Then wait for at least 5 minutes before any other tasks (so that the
capacitors are discharged by this period of time).
 Clean the case of the UPS with a piece of wet cloth in every two months.
 Clean the dust deposited on the front panel with a piece of cotton cloth in
every three months. It is recommended to replace the display illumination
unit in every three years.
 The fans should be checked and cleaned once in every three months.
Lifespans of the fans depend on the ambient temperature and the usage
method. It is recommended to replace the fans in every four years.
 It is recommended to replace the AC and DC capacitors in the system in
every five years.
 Lifespans of the batteries depend on the ambient temperature, number of
charging-discharging process and the amount of deep discharging. It is
recommended to replace the batteries in every five years maximumly.
FAULT
Since there are fatal (dangerous) parts inside the unit, only the authorized, trained
and qualified technicians are allowed to provide services to the UPS.
BEFORE CALLING THE TECHNICAL SERVICE
Before you call the technical service please be sure to check the following.

 Read the user manual thoroughly.

 Check whether the input, output and battery circuit breaker connections of
the UPS are well connected or not.
 In case any fault occurres, shutdown the UPS and then start it again.
 Define the problems exactly.
