A MINI RESEARCH FOR MATH GRADE 10:

STATISTICAL ANALYSIS OF THE ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE OF GRADE 10

KAMANSI STUDENTS IN MATHEMATICS AT GOVERNOR FELICIANO
LEVISTE MEMORIAL NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL IN THE THIRD QUARTER
OF THE SCHOOL YEAR 2019 – 2020

I. Background of the Study
At the primary, secondary, and tertiary
levels, mathematics is an important subject. Its
significance in the national curriculum cannot be
overstated. All subjects, including language-based subjects,
demonstrate the subject's utility. It is a fact that success
in any type of training or work is largely dependent on the
ability to grasp basic mathematical concepts. Hence,
teachers must identify which students are having difficulty
and intervene to assists them in overcoming these obstacles.

II. Statement of the Problem

This study aimed to help the researcher
determine the academic performance of grade 10 Kamansi
students in Mathematics at Governor Feliciano Leviste
Memorial National High School.

III. Significance of the Study

The researcher may be able to identify
students who needs support and intervention in this subject.
This will reveal whether or not students in Grade 10 Kamansi
are having difficulty dealing with Mathematics.
IV. Methodology

A. Research Design
This is quantitative research. Documentary
analysis was used in conducting this mini research.
B. Participants \ Respondents
Grade 10 Kamansi Students at Governor
Feliciano Leviste Memorial National High School.
C. Data Gathering
The data were taken from the teacher’s
class record.
D. Statistical Treatment:

85 - 86 2 2 84.5 85.5 171
I = 2 N = 42 ∑fXm=
3,859

*Mean = ∑fXm/N
= 3,859/42
Mean = 91.88 The class has an average of 91.88 or 92% in
Mathematics.

*Percentile 75 Lb = 92.5
P75 = LB + (Kn/100 – cfb /f) i Cfb = 27
Kn/100 = 75(42)/100 f = 14
= 3150/100 I = 2
= 32
P75 = 92.5 + (32 – 27 /14) 2
= 92.5 + 0.71
P75 = 93.2 Therefore, 75%(32) of the students have an
score of less than or equal to 93.2.

*Percentile Rank
Lb = 88.5 F = 2
Cfb = 2 I = 2
PR = (100/N)((P-LB)fp/I + cfp)
= (100/42)((89 – 88.5)2/2 + 2)
= (2.38)(2.5)
PR = 5.95 or 6% Therefore 6% of the grades are less than
the cumulative frequency of 89%, while 94% of the grades are
greater than the cumulative frequency of 89.

V. Results and Findings

The class has an average of 91.88 or 92% in Math.
75%(32) of the students have a grade of less than or equal
to 93.2.
25% of the students (10) have a grade of greater than or
equal to 93.2.
6% of the grades are less than the cumulative frequency of
89.
94% of the grades are greater than the cumulative frequency
of 89.

VI. Conclusion and Recommendation

Based on the results the grade 10 SPS got a high
mastery level of academic performance for the third quarter
in Mathematics. There are only a few students who got grades
below 89% and most of the students got a passing grade above
90%.
The Math Teachers of grade 10 Kamansi must
prepare intervention materials for that 6% of the class who
failed to reach above 90% of the grade.
