1. Using Table 1, compute the combustion energy (heat content) from methane
(CH3) and propane (C3H8). What is the relation between the combustion energy
with the molar mass and the associated binding energy of the gaseous fuels?

Table 1 common molecule and their binding energy

2. What is the specific gravity of a 30° API gravity of oil? Based on the API
calculated from the SG for the following liquid fuel calculate their heating
values and show the relation between the density and the heating value of
liquid fuels.
Fuel oil HHV = 43,380 + 93 (API - 10) kJ/kg,

Kerosene HHV = 42,890 + 93 (API - 10) kJ/kg,

Gasoline HHV = 42,612 + 93 (API - 10) kJ/kg,

3. Gasoline can be represented by the formula C8H16. Determine (a) AF ratio

for the stoichiometric combustion of gasoline and air on a molar basis; (b)
repeat part (a) on a mass basis; and (c) calculate the gravimetric and mole
fractions for the stoichiometric reactants of gasoline and air.
