Text Search Hacks
MANU Search is a good way to search for cases and articles in a single search box. The
MANU SEARCH option can be found on the top right corner. One has to use keywords,
phrases, etc. The results can be sorted on Decision Date; Title; Court Name and Relevance.
For example if a KEYWORD like “murder” is used as shown in the image above, 6340 Results
appear. “Search in Results” is a good way of refining search- for example in terms of the
weapon- KNIFE. Now the results reduce to 966 and are accurate as per search
requirements.
After the results are filtered they display a set of much more useful. It saves time and helps
a user to get to relevant results sooner.“Search in results” can be performed many times
consecutively till the results are almost tailor made for the user.
“NEAR EACH OTHER SEARCH” is a also a very useful tool for optimising search experience
using phrases. In the search illustrated above related to water pollution in the Yamuna river
and we want that the words “YAMUNA” “WATER” and “POLLUTION” are seen as one phrase
in the results then we use the “NEAR EACH OTHER SEARCH” and it filters out those results
which do not contain these words in proximity.
While searching for a proposition always break it down so that variations in language used
by different courts and judges are not excluded because of the way you have structured
your search query. Also, you can perform multiple ‘Near Each Other’ searches to find cases
based on variations of your initial search query as well. That will minimize the chances of
your missing out on relevant cases.
