Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

The interactive map activity supports learning by offering a visual representation of data to aid visual learners
while being interactive so as to engage students.
Lesson idea implementation:
As an introduction to the unit that contains this lesson, I will spend classes teach the students about each of
the prominent religions and philosophies of Asia. After students have a grasp on these ideas, I will implement
this lesson. The first thing I will do is tell students everything they will be doing for the lesson. The lesson will
begin with students being partnered into groups of 2. Then, I will pass out a map containing every labeled
country in Asia to each student. Each student will then be given a laptop and will open the interactive religion
map URL listed above.

Students will then have 30 minutes to work with their partner until both of their maps have the most
prominent religion written in each Asian country. When time is up, I will take their papers. Then I will call
students up one by one for each Asian country, and each will have to correctly write what the most
prominent religion is (on the Promethean Board at the front of class). If someone gets one wrong, I ask
students who know the answer to raise their hand so they can steer the student at the front in the right
direction. Students will use this knowledge to apply their knowledge of Asian religions to its following today.
Reflective Practice:
I feel the lesson activities I put together will positively impact student learning as the students are challenged
to understand the prominence of religions in Asia. After the lesson, the next part of the unit would have each
student write their name by a country (one student per country) to choose it to do a small research paper on.
Then, students will each type a one-page paper on their laptops, along with references, on the history of the
most prominent religion in their selected country.
