[Introduction]
Pakistan is developing country and people of Pakistan are facing social issues which are
disturbing the social life and peace of mind of the people. People are too confused to solve these
problems by themselves as it is the duty of the government to solve it and too costly to be solved
by any individual. Everybody is affected by these issues. Most of the population of Pakistan is
from middle and lower middle class. The social issues which are discussed in the Dawn and the

[Poverty]
The declining trend in poverty in Pakistan during the 1970s and 1980s was reversed in
the 1990s. The incidence of poverty increased from 26.6 percent in FY1993 to 32.2 percent in
FY1999 and the number of poor increased by over 12 million people during this period. Since
FY1999, economic growth has slowed further, development spending has continued to decline,
than in FY1999. Poverty in Pakistan has historically been higher in rural than
urban areas. Poverty rose more sharply in the rural areas in the 1990s, and in FY1999 the
incidence of rural poverty (36.3 percent) was significantly higher than urban
poverty (22.6 percent). Inequality also increased in Pakistan during the 1990s, in both urban and
rural areas, which enhanced the negative impact on poverty of the slowdown in growth during

this period. While agriculture is the predominant activity in rural society, a substantial proportion
of the rural labor force, estimated at more than 40 percent, depends entirely on non-farm
activities. The growth of non-farm activities appears to have been severely affected by low
economic growth, decline in public sector development spending, and lower worker remittances
Nepotism
It is said that nepotism is the paralyzed part of our system that has been destroying the country’s
progress rapidly since the independence. Its acutely, the wrong use of power by giving best
positions and jobs to their family or their close contacts even though they some people do not
deserve. Irony is this that it takes place at the cost of other talented ones. Nepotism is an ax that
cuts the roots of merits leaving the deserving people pass the the miserable life. I Nepotism is
nuisance for nation it is not only destroying it by providing opportunities to skill less and inapt
person but also badly infringe the rights of skilled people if we talk about Pakistan so we can
find all around such things that the members of same family work at the same field and every
place in Pakistan while Pakistan is said to be a sacred land that came in to being in the name of
Islamic republic of Pakistan. Despite of it, we are not treated as equal as taught by Islam. Since
the independence of Pakistan, people have always been a victim of nepotism and favoritism

widespread and systemic. Petty corruption in the form of bribery is prevalent in law
enforcement, procurement and the provision of public services. The judiciary is not seen as
Various efforts over the past years have tried to develop institutional mechanisms to address
these problems. A National Anti-Corruption Strategy, which was developed in 2002, offers a
comprehensive plan for tackling corruption. The executing agency, the National
prosecute cases. However, a lack of political will, coupled with the perceived co-option of
the judiciary and the arbitrariness of many anti-corruption proceedings, are major obstacles.

Unemployment
Unemployment is a major problem for any country , the position of Pakistan will be seen.we will
also look at the urban and rural areas of Pakistan and look at the unemployment rate there. The
table below shows the total population of Pakistan. It can be clearly seen the Pakistan is suffering
from over population and the being an underdeveloped country it is very difficult to control this.
This also effect the employment rate of Pakistan. The population is increasing as we can see in
the table. Although the growth rate is decreasing by the actual figure of population has increased
from 90.10 million in 2004 to 149.03 in 2009. This shows the rapid rate of increase in force is
defined as all persons of ten years of age and more who worked at least one hour during the

employed in Pakistan. Of the labor force of 42.75 million 39.4 are employed. 27.6 of them

working in the rural areas and 11.8 in the urban areas. We can see the same aspect of the higher
population rate in the rural area has caused a higher employment rate in the rural areas. the
government has neglected the unregistered people who are actively participating in the labor
force but are not employed because there are no jobs available to them. .
