Date: February 16 Lesson: Teaching a New Game

Guiding Question:
How is my timing with a tighter time limit on Math?
Observation Notes:
Be ready to maximize your time – have everything ready, have kids
prepared for which centre to start at.
Birds: 1:27-1:43 (15 minutes)
Racoons 1:45-1:53 (8 minutes)
Apples 1:55- 2:06 (11 minutes)
Owls 2:09 – 2:18 (9 minutes)
9 minutes transition time
Be more specific and detailed in your lesson plan with how much time you
will spend with each group. As it turned out today, you finished in time for
recess, but there was no purpose/differentiation to the group times.
On Day 1 and Day 2, take about 10 minutes off, OR opt for whole group,
especially when teaching the same game. They could use the rest of the
time to practice if you make extra copies.
Follow up Questions:
-If you were to re-teach the lesson, what would you do differently/what
will you do next time?
If my purpose is teaching one game, use whole group. This also gives
students a chance to practice the game for longer.
Plan appropriate timing/pacing in my lesson plan, so timing is intentional
and every groups get what they need.
