1 Scope

This Specification together with the Purchase Order and appropriate specification sheets
covers the minimum requirements of pressure preservative treatment for wood piles,
timbers and ties.

2 Conflicts and Deviations

2.1 Any conflicts between this specification and other applicable Saudi Aramco
Materials System Specifications (SAMSSs), Engineering Standards (SAESs),
Standard Drawings (SASDs), or industry standards, codes, and forms shall be
resolved in writing by the Company or Buyer Representative through the
Manager, Consulting Services Department of Saudi Aramco, Dhahran.

2.2 Direct all requests to deviate from this specification in writing to the Company or
Buyer Representative, who shall follow internal company procedure SAEP-302
and forward such requests to the Manager, Consulting Services Department of
Saudi Aramco, Dhahran.

3 References

The selection of material and equipment, and the design, construction, maintenance, and
repair of equipment and facilities covered by this specification shall comply with the
latest edition of the references listed below, unless otherwise noted.

4 Special Requirements

4.1 Definitions

All terms used in this Specification are defined within AWPA Standard M5.

4.2 Preservative and Preservative Treatment

4.2.1 Land and Fresh Water Application. The type of preservative used shall
be as specified in the Purchase Order and shall be in accordance with
applicable AWPA Standards P1, P2, P3 or P8. The preservative
treatment shall be in accordance with applicable AWPA Standards C1,
C2, C3 or C6.

4.2.2 Marine Application. The preservative used shall be selected in


accordance with AWPA Standard C18, based upon marine borer hazard
as specified in the Purchase Order. The preservative treatment shall be
in accordance with the applicable AWPA Standards C1, C2, C3, C6, or
C18.

4.3 Re-Treatment

Re-treatment will be permitted in accordance with the applicable AWPA


Standards except material shall not be re-treated more than once.

4.4 Inspection

“All materials furnished under this specification are subject to verification by


the Buyer's representative per Saudi Aramco Inspection Requirements Form
175-090200 attached to the Purchase Order. Inspection acceptance criteria shall
be per AWPA Standard M2 and the vendor shall provide a certificate with
information per AWPA Standard M2, Paragraph 7.”

4.5 Storage and Handling

Storage and handling after preservative treatment shall be in accordance with


AWPA Standard M4.
